INSTALLATION INFORMATION\r\n---------------------------\r\n\r\n- If you install Paradox on a machine that has a VGA\r\n driver, but is using a monochrome display, the check\r\n boxes on the Installation dialog box do not paint\r\n correctly. You can assume that all check boxes are\r\n checked by default.\r\n\r\n- If you install Paradox for Windows 4.5 as a part of the\r\n Borland Office suite, you can disregard the CAUTION\r\n statements on pages 2 and 33 of the Borland Office\r\n Getting Started booklet.\r\n\r\n- If, during the installation process, the Install program\r\n attempts to overwrite a file that has the DOS Read-Only\r\n attribute, Paradox returns you to the Installation dialog\r\n box without completing the installation. You must remove\r\n the Read-Only attribute before attempting to install\r\n again.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. DOCUMENTATION ERRORS\r\n-----------------------\r\n- The Paradox for Windows printed documentation does not\r\n reflect new features and changes in Paradox. See the\r\n UPGRADE.TXT and NEWPAL.DB files for details on new or\r\n enhanced features.\r\n\r\n\"Getting Started\"\r\n-----------------\r\n- You must run DOS SHARE if you want to use multiple\r\n instances of Paradox or ODAPI clients (such as the\r\n Workgroup Desktop or the Database Desktop included with\r\n Quattro Pro for Windows.) If you do not run SHARE in this\r\n situation, the second instance will not load.\r\n\r\n The SHARE.EXE command (in either your AUTOEXEC.BAT or\r\n your CONFIG.SYS) should include these optional\r\n parameters:\r\n\r\n SHARE /F:4096 /L:40\r\n\r\n The /F parameter allocates file space for the DOS storage\r\n area used to record file-sharing information. The default\r\n value is 2048. The /L parameter sets the number of files\r\n that can be locked at one time. The default value is 20.\r\n\r\n\"User's Guide\"\r\n--------------\r\n- The field _Invariant Field ID in the STRUCT.DB table is\r\n used internally by Paradox to identify fields for use in\r\n associated design documents.\r\n\r\n- When you export data to or import data from an ASCII\r\n file, your date, numeric, and currency fields use the\r\n settings from your Windows Control Panel.\r\n\r\n- If a Windows file association already exists for a .DBF\r\n or .QBE file, Paradox will overwrite it during\r\n installation.\r\n\r\n- Under certain conditions in a multiuser environment,\r\n forms bound to unkeyed (unindexed) tables may lose track\r\n of the current record during a lengthy operation. You can\r\n avoid this situation entirely by using keyed tables.\r\n\r\n- Page 57: The paragraph describing the write lock states\r\n \"Other users can place a read lock on a table that you\r\n have a write lock on.\" It should state \"Other users can\r\n place an open lock on a table that you have a write lock\r\n on.\"\r\n\r\n- When designing a graph in the Report Design window, the\r\n Data Type option is not available from the Define Graph\r\n dialog box.\r\n\r\n\"ObjectPAL Reference\"\r\n---------------------\r\n\r\n- AnyType:unAssign() does not return a value. The correct\r\n syntax is unAssign().\r\n\r\n\r\n3. DELETING OPTIONAL SOFTWARE\r\n-----------------------------\r\n\r\nAfter installing and becoming familiar with Paradox, you\r\nmight decide to delete some of the optional software\r\ncomponents (such as sample files). The following table shows\r\nwhat files you can delete and where they are located. TUTILITY NOTES\r\n-----------------\r\n\r\nTUTILITY checks a Paradox table for damage and rebuilds it\r\nif necessary. Paradox tables can be damaged by power\r\nfailures, hardware failures, bad network cards or\r\nconnections, removing a floppy disk that Paradox is\r\naccessing, or rebooting the system while Paradox is active\r\nin memory. You should always make regular backups of your\r\nimportant data.\r\n\r\nTo start TUTILITY, type TUTILITY at the DOS prompt, then\r\npress [Enter]. If you installed Paradox in the PDOXWIN\r\ndirectory, you can also start TUTILITY from its icon in the\r\nParadox for Windows group. If you installed to a different\r\ndirectory, you have to edit TUTILITY.PIF before you can\r\nstart TUTILITY from its icon.\r\n\r\nAdditional instructions and a description of program options\r\nare provided in the TUTILITY.DOC file.
