TUTILITY NOTES\r\n-----------------\r\n\r\nTUTILITY checks a Paradox table for damage and rebuilds it if\r\nnecessary. Paradox tables can be damaged by power failures, hardware\r\nfailures, bad network cards or connections, removing a floppy disk\r\nthat Paradox is accessing, or rebooting the system while Paradox is\r\nactive in memory. You should always make regular backups of your\r\nimportant data.\r\n\r\nTo start TUTILITY, type TUTILITY at the DOS prompt, then press\r\n[Enter]. If you installed Paradox in the PDOXWIN directory, you can\r\nalso start TUTILITY from its icon in the Paradox for Windows group.\r\nIf you installed to a different directory, you have to edit\r\nTUTILITY.PIF before you can start TUTILITY from its icon.\r\n\r\nAdditional instructions and a description of program options are\r\nprovided in the TUTILITY.DOC file. Online help is also available when\r\nyou run the program. Command-line help is available by typing\r\nTUTILITY -help.\r\n\r\n\r\n3. DOCUMENTATION NOTES\r\n----------------------\r\n\r\nThis section of the README file contains new information and revisions\r\nto the Paradox manuals.\r\n\r\n\"Getting Started\"\r\n-----------------\r\n- Your SHARE.EXE command (in either your AUTOEXEC.BAT or your\r\n CONFIG.SYS) should include these optional parameters:\r\n\r\n SHARE /F:4096 /L:400\r\n\r\n The /F parameter allocates file space for the DOS storage area used\r\n to record file-sharing information. The default value is 2048. The /L\r\n parameter sets the number of files that can be locked at one time. The\r\n default value is 20.\r\n\r\n- The following command-line options have been added to Paradox:\r\n\r\n -n Do not write changes to WIN.INI. When you exit Paradox, the names\r\n of the working directory and the private directory are written to\r\n WIN.INI. Use -n to prevent this. You can place -n in the FLAGS=\r\n line of the [PDOXWIN] section of WIN.INI. If you do this and need to\r\n save changes to WIN.INI, you can override the -n option by starting\r\n Paradox with the -y option. For more information about starting\r\n Paradox with command-line options, see Chapter 14 in \"Getting\r\n Started.\"\r\n\r\n -y Do write changes to WIN.INI\r\n\r\n -e Prevents Paradox from writing changes to PDOXWIN.INI and\r\n PDOXWORK.INI. This option is useful for developers who require\r\n specific settings in these files.\r\n\r\n -f Lets Paradox writes changes to PDOXWIN.INI and PDOXWORK.INI. This\r\n option overrides -e if is placed in the FLAGS= line in the [PDOXWIN]\r\n section of WIN.INI.\r\n\r\n -s Prevents users from resizing the Desktop. This option starts Paradox\r\n without a resizable window border. It does not prevent the window\r\n from being resized by ObjectPAL applications.\r\n\r\n -t Lets users resize the Desktop. This option can be used to override -s\r\n if it is placed in the FLAGS= line in the [PDOXWIN] section of\r\n WIN.INI.\r\n\r\n- When starting a second instance of Paradox from a second Paradox icon,\r\n use the -n command-line option (which prohibits Paradox from saving\r\n private and working directory settings in the WIN.INI file) and the\r\n -p option (which lets you choose a different private directory).\r\n\r\n- If you are accessing a table on a network, you must close the table\r\n before you log off the network.\r\n\r\n\"User's Guide\"\r\n--------------\r\n- When you export data to or import data from an ASCII file, your date,\r\n numeric, and currency fields use the settings from your Windows Control\r\n Panel.\r\n\r\n- If a Windows file association already exists for a .DBF or .QBE file,\r\n Paradox will overwrite it during installation.\r\n\r\n- Under certain conditions in a multiuser environment, forms bound to\r\n unkeyed (unindexed) tables may lose track of the current record during\r\n a lengthy operation. You can avoid this situation entirely by using\r\n keyed tables.\r\n\r\n- You must supply the full path name (not an alias) for the Answer table\r\n specified in the Properties|Answer Table|Options dialog.\r\n\r\n\"ObjectPAL Reference\"\r\n---------------------\r\n- p. 227 isFromUI returns TRUE only for the first KeyEvent generated by a\r\n keypress; for subsequent events or actions, isFromUI returns FALSE.\r\n For example, when the user presses a key it generates a KeyEvent which\r\n Paradox may translate into one or more events or actions; however,\r\n isFromUI returns TRUE only for the first KeyEvent (the one generated\r\n by the user).\r\n\r\n- New method/procedure for the Form type: getFileName( ) String. As a\r\n method, it returns the file name of the associated form. As a procedure\r\n it returns the file name of the current form.\r\n\r\n- New method for the TableView type: moveToRecord( tc TCursor ) Logical.\r\n Makes a table view point to the current record of a TCursor.\r\n\r\n- Keywords associated with specific types are described in Chapter 4,\r\n \"Object type reference.\" For example, CREATE, INDEX, and SORT act on\r\n tables, so they're described in the Table section.\r\n\r\n- The CREATE, INDEX, and SORT structures are not available from the\r\n Methods dialog box or from the Language|Keywords menu. Refer to the\r\n Table section of the \"ObjectPAL Reference\" for information about these\r\n structures.\r\n\r\n- Do not call a DynArray removeItem or empty method to modify a dynamic\r\n array when iterating over it in a forEach loop.\r\n\r\n- The following ObjectPAL methods and procedures are not documented\r\n but are available in the Database type:\r\n\r\n - setQueryRestartOptions (const qryRestartType SmallInt) Logical\r\n\r\n Specifies the behavior of queries in a multiuser environment, where\r\n qryRestartType is one of the following:\r\n\r\n QueryLock SmallInt Acquires a write lock on the table\r\n before executing a query.\r\n QueryNoLock SmallInt Does not lock the table and ignores\r\n changes to it during a query.\r\n QueryRestart SmallInt Restarts a query if a change to the\r\n table occurs during the query.\r\n QueryDefault SmallInt Uses the query restart option specified\r\n in the Properties|Restart Options\r\n dialog box.\r\n\r\n - getQueryRestartOptions () SmallInt\r\n\r\n Returns the value established by setQueryRestartOptions.\r\n\r\n\r\n\"ObjectPAL Developer's Guide\"\r\n-----------------------------\r\n- p. 193 The position coordinates for a dialog box are\r\n calculated with respect to the screen; however, the\r\n position coordinates for a form are calculated with\r\n respect to the Paradox Desktop.
