INSTALL**\r\n\r\nINFORMATION FOR UPGRADERS\r\n\r\nIf you install 1-2-3 Release 4 in a directory that contains a previous\r\nrelease of 1-2-3 for Windows, you should have 2MB to 3MB of free hard-disk \r\nspace.\r\n\r\nIf your Windows directory is on a different drive from your 1-2-3 directory,\r\nthe drive that contains your Windows directory should have 1.5MB to 2MB of\r\nfree hard-disk space.\r\n\r\n\r\nDISTRIBUTION INSTALL\r\n\r\nTo streamline the installation of 1-2-3 on many stand-alone computers, copy\r\nthe 1-2-3 Release 4 files to a network server and then let licensed users\r\ninstall 1-2-3 on their hard disks from the server.\r\n\r\nFollow these instructions to copy 1-2-3 to the server:\r\n\r\n1. Follow the instructions on the label of Disk 1 to start Install.\r\n\r\n2. Enter your name and company name in the Recording Your Name and\r\n Company Name dialog box, and then choose OK.\r\n\r\n Note: Each user who installs from the server must enter his or her\r\n name during Install, but the company name you enter now remains fixed.\r\n\r\n3. Choose OK to confirm the names.\r\n\r\n4. Choose Exit Install to end the Install program.\r\n\r\n5. End Microsoft Windows.\r\n\r\n6. At the operating system prompt, type a:crsby and press ENTER.\r\n\r\n If Disk 1 is not in diskette drive A:, substitute the correct\r\n letter.\r\n\r\n CRSBY.BAT copies the compressed 1-2-3 files to the server, prompting you\r\n to change disks until all the files are copied.\r\n\r\nUsers can now follow these instructions to install 1-2-3 Release 4 on their\r\nhard disks.\r\n\r\n1. In the Windows Program Manager, choose File Run.\r\n\r\n2. Type [x]:\\path\\install in the Command Line text box.\r\n\r\n [x]:\\path is the drive letter and path for the server directory that\r\n contains the 1-2-3 files. For example, type t:\\123r4w\\install to start\r\n Install from a directory named \\123R4W on drive T:.\r\n\r\n3. Choose OK.\r\n\r\n The Install program displays a series of dialog boxes that prompt users\r\n for information about what to install and how to install it.\r\n\r\nINSTALLING ON COMPUTERS WITH CD-ROM DRIVES\r\n\r\nIf you are installing 1-2-3 on a computer that has a CD-ROM drive, make\r\nsure the drive contains a CD-ROM and is closed before you start Install.\r\n\r\n\r\n**2. WINDOWS AND AVAILABLE MEMORY**\r\n\r\nNote: Windows 3.1 requires more memory than Windows 3.0, so you may need to\r\nfree additional memory before you use 1-2-3 with Windows 3.1.\r\n\r\nBefore you start 1-2-3, find out how much memory is available by opening\r\nProgram Manager and choosing Help About Program Manager.\r\n\r\nIf less than 1800K of memory is free, you will not be able to start 1-2-3\r\nRelease 4. Close open applications and remove memory-resident programs\r\nto make more memory available. Then check the amount of free memory again.\r\n\r\nIf slightly more than 1800K of memory is free, you can start 1-2-3, but\r\nyou may encounter Memory Full messages while you work.\r\n\r\nThe following suggestions can help you increase the amount of available\r\nmemory. \r\n\r\n* For maximum memory savings, remove SMARTdrive. (If you do not want to\r\n remove SMARTdrive, see the next bullet to reduce the SMARTdrive cache\r\n size.) \r\n\r\n To remove SMARTdrive in Windows 3.0, remove the\r\n DEVICE=[x]:\\WINDOWS\\SMARTDRV.SYS statement from CONFIG.SYS.\r\n \r\n To remove SMARTdrive in Windows 3.1, remove the\r\n [x]:\\WINDOWS\\SMARTDRV.EXE statement from AUTOEXEC.BAT.\r\n\r\n You can either delete these statements or type REM in front of them.\r\n For example, REM [x]:\\WINDOWS\\SMARTDRV.EXE\r\n\r\n* If you do not want to remove SMARTdrive, you can save memory by reducing\r\n the SMARTdrive cache to 256K.\r\n\r\n In Windows 3.0, edit the SMARTdrive statement in CONFIG.SYS \r\n so it reads DEVICE=[x]:\\WINDOWS\\SMARTDRV.SYS 1024 256.\r\n\r\n In Windows 3.1, edit the SMARTdrive statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT so it reads\r\n [x]:\\WINDOWS\\SMARTDRV.EXE 1024 256.\r\n\r\n* 386 users only: Increase the Windows swap file size to at least 1MB.\r\n To learn how to change the swap file size, see the Microsoft Windows\r\n documentation.\r\n\r\n* Windows 3.1 users only: Windows 3.1 comes with a scalable font manager,\r\n so you can turn off ATM to maximize memory savings. To turn off ATM,\r\n double-click the ATM Control Panel icon. Under ATM, select Off.\r\n Select Exit. Restart Windows.\r\n\r\nTip: If 1-2-3 displays the message \"Out of memory\" or \"Not enough Windows\r\nresources to complete the operation,\" and you cannot save your files with\r\nFile Save, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S.\r\n\r\n\r\n**3. CHARTING INFORMATION FOR UPGRADERS**\r\n\r\nTo work with named charts that you created in a previous release of 1-2-3\r\nfor Windows, but did not add to the worksheet, open the .WK3 file that\r\ncontains the charts and choose Edit Go To. Select Chart in the \"Type of\r\nitem\" drop-down box, and then select the named chart in the list box. \r\n\r\n1-2-3 adds the chart to the center of the worksheet area displayed on the\r\nscreen. You can move the chart anywhere in the worksheet.\r\n\r\n\r\n**4. PRINTING PERFORMANCE INFORMATION**\r\n\r\nPRINTER DRIVERS AND DEVICES\r\n\r\nPrinter manufacturers periodically update printer drivers. In some cases,\r\ndrivers newer than those that shipped with Windows 3.1 are available.\r\nTo find out if a newer driver is available for your printer, check bulletin\r\nboards such as CompuServe, or contact your printer manufacturer.\r\n\r\nThe following table lists some popular printers and newer drivers that\r\nare currently available.\r\n\r\nPRINTER\t\t\tNEW DRIVER\r\n=======\t\t\t==========\r\nHP DeskJet Family\tVersion 3 or higher\r\n\r\nHP LaserJet III\t\tVersions 2 and 2.1 (newer than 31.3.89)\r\n\r\nHP LaserJet IV\t\tVersion 31.V1.18 or higher\r\n\r\nIBM 4019/4029\t\tVersion 3.08 or higher\r\n\r\nPostscript\t\tVersions 3.5 and 3.53\r\n\r\n\r\nTo find out the version number of your printer driver, do the following:\r\n\r\n1. Open the Windows Control Panel and select Printers.\r\n\r\n Windows displays a list of printers installed on your system.\r\n\r\n2. Highlight a printer in the list.\r\n\r\n4. Choose Setup.\r\n\r\n The Setup dialog box for your printer appears.\r\n\r\n5. Choose About to see information about your printer, including the\r\n version number of the driver.\r\n\r\n\r\nPRINT RESOLUTION\r\n\r\n1-2-3 Release 4 is optimized for printing at 300 dots-per-inch (dpi).\r\n\r\nTip: If you want to print at 600 dpi, and your print job contains\r\nmany different fonts, and you encounter problems printing, open\r\nPrinters in the Windows Control Panel, and select the \"Print True Type\r\nas Graphics\" check box in your printer's Setup Options or Setup Options\r\nAdvanced dialog box.\r\n\r\n\r\n**5. DATALENS AND ODBC DRIVERS**\r\n\r\nIf 1-2-3 displays the message \"Invalid field name\" when you query against\r\nworksheets on disk, choose Set database table before you use any other\r\nQuery command.\r\n\r\nODBC DRIVERS\r\n\r\n1-2-3 Release 4 can be configured to use drivers that meet the Microsoft\r\nOpen Database Connectivity (ODBC) specification. The dBASE DataLens driver\r\nthat comes with 1-2-3 Release 4 uses an ODBC engine.\r\n\r\nNote: Most ODBC drivers have not been certified with 1-2-3. Lotus does not\r\nprovide technical support for these drivers.\r\n\r\nIf you are using the DataLens dBASE driver or any other ODBC driver with\r\n1-2-3, start SHARE.EXE before you start Windows. To start SHARE.EXE before\r\nevery Windows session, add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:\r\n\r\nC:\\DOS\\SHARE\r\n\r\nSee your DOS documentation for information about SHARE.EXE.\r\n\r\nYou can configure 1-2-3 to use either all ODBC drivers or one specific\r\ndriver. To provide access to all ODBC sources, add the following line to\r\nyour LOTUS.BCF file:\r\n\r\nDN=\"ODBC\" DL=\"DLODBC\" DD=\"All ODBC sources\";\r\n\r\nYou can add support for a specific ODBC driver by including a DC parameter\r\nto the ODBC record in LOTUS.BCF. If an entry with the string DL=\"DLODBC\",\r\nas shown above, also includes a string of the form DC=\"driver=xxx\" then \r\n1-2-3 will make available only those sources that use \"xxx\" as a driver.\r\nFor example:\r\n\r\nDN=\"SQL Database via ODBC\" DL=\"DLODBC\" DC=\"driver=sql.dll\" AC=UI,PW;\r\n\r\nYou can configure 1-2-3 to prompt for a user ID and password for a data \r\nsource by adding the following line to the LOTUS.BCF:\r\n\r\nDB=\"source name\" DN=\"ODBC\" AC=UI,PW;\r\n\r\nFor more information on editing your LOTUS.BCF file, see DataLens Drivers\r\nfor 1-2-3.\r\n\r\nWhen the 1-2-3 user picks the DataLens driver for dBASE files, the list of\r\navailable databases includes the following:\r\n\r\n * The current directory\r\n \r\n * All data sources in ODBC.INI that have \"driver=qodbf.dll\"\r\n\r\nIn addition, you can also add a new database name to ODBC.INI and type in\r\nthe new path.\r\n\r\nData source names for dBASE must be paths when using DLODBC.\r\n\r\nWhen you use a macro to send updates to ODBC-dBASE IV tables, you must\r\nfollow the {SEND-SQL} command with a {COMMIT} command. \r\n\r\n\r\nIBM DATABASE MANAGER\r\n\r\nFor Database Manager access to an OS/2 2.0 server, you need the Local Area\r\nNetwork Support Program Version 1.3.\r\n\r\nENVIRONMENT VARIABLES\r\n\r\nUnlike some other releases of 1-2-3, 1-2-3 Release 4 does not use the\r\n\"LOTUSBCF\" environment variable, but reads only records listed in the\r\nLOTUS.BCF file located in \\LOTUSAPPS\\DATALENS.\r\n\r\n\r\n**6. VERSION MANAGER**\r\n\r\nIf you are using Version Manager with Lotus Notes Release 3, start SHARE.EXE\r\nbefore you start Windows. To start SHARE.EXE before every Windows session,\r\nadd the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:\r\n\r\nC:\\DOS\\SHARE\r\n\r\nSee your DOS documentation for information about SHARE.EXE.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nWhen you use shared files, Lotus Notes may display certain messages in a\r\nspecial untitled error window during your 1-2-3 session. Attempting to\r\nclose this window ends communication with the Notes server for the rest\r\nof the 1-2-3 session. \r\n\r\nIf 1-2-3 displays the message \"Error Initializing Lotus Notes\" when you\r\ntry to open a shared file (.NS4), check the following:\r\n\r\n * If the LotusMail section in your WIN.INI file specifies Notes, make sure\r\n it includes the correct Notes program path. For example:\r\n\t[LotusMail]\r\n\tApplication=Notes\r\n\tProgram=x:\\notes\\notes.exe\r\n\r\n * If the LotusApplications section of your LOTUS.INI file specifies Notes, \r\n make sure it includes the correct Notes program path. For example:\r\n\t[LotusApplications]\r\n\tNotes=x:\\notes\\notes.exe\r\n\r\n * Make sure SHARE.EXE was started before you started Windows.\r\n\r\n\r\nIf you delete all versions from a range in a shared file (.NS4), you will\r\nbe unable to create any more versions in that range. Do not delete all\r\nversions from a range unless you are sure you no longer want to share it.\r\n\r\n\r\n**7. SOLVER**\r\n\r\nSolver uses relationships among formula cells in 1-2-3 to arrive at its\r\nanswers. Since DDE links get their data from sources outside 1-2-3, you\r\nshould not use @DDELINK formulas in cells that you use as adjustable or\r\nconstraint cells for Solver.\r\n\r\n\r\n**8. COMMAND-LINE PARAMETERS**\r\n\r\nTo specify command-line parameters for 1-2-3 Release 4\r\n\r\n1. Highlight the 1-2-3 Release 4 icon.\r\n\r\n2. Choose File Properties from the Windows Program Manager.\r\n\r\n3. In the Command Line text box, append a command-line parameter to\r\n 123W.EXE. (For example, C:\\123R4W\\PROGRAMS\\123W.EXE -s)\r\n\r\nYou can specify the following command-line parameters:\r\n\r\nfilename\r\nLets you specify a file to load whenever you start 1-2-3.\r\n\r\n-s\r\nMakes 1-2-3 Release 4 use the software floating point driver instead\r\nof a math coprocessor. Use this parameter if you have a defective math\r\ncoprocessor in your computer or if your computer tells 1-2-3 you have a\r\nmath coprocessor when you do not. Under these circumstances, all your\r\nformulas may evaluate to 0, ERR, or *** (asterisks).\r\n\r\n-i [filename.ini]\r\nLets you specify an initialization file other than 123R4.INI. For example,\r\nC:\\123R4W\\PROGRAMS\\123W.EXE -iC:\\123R4W\\MYINI.INI specifies the\r\ninitialization file C:\\123R4W\\MYINI.INI.\r\n\r\nNote: If you use 1-2-3 Release 4 with Lotus Notes Document Inset \r\nProtocol (DIP), you must have 123R4.INI in your Windows directory.\r\n\r\n\r\n**9. CORRECTIONS TO THE DOCUMENTATION**\r\n\r\n\r\nUSER'S GUIDE\r\n\r\nPage 89: The second sentence of the Note should read: To delete a named\r\nrange that contains versions, you must first delete the versions. \r\n\r\nPage 125: The last sentence in the second paragraph under \"Changing\r\ncolumn width\" should read: Use Style Column Width to change the column to\r\na specific width, reset to the default width, or set the width to fit the\r\nlargest entry in the current selection.\r\n\r\nPage 126: The second bullet under step 3 of \"To change columns to a\r\nspecified width\" should read: \"Fit widest entry\" adjusts the columns to\r\nthe width of the widest entries in the current selection.\r\n\r\n\r\nWHAT'S NEW\r\n\r\nPages 88: Add the following to the Transcript Commands section:\r\n Record Relative Records range selections as offsets of the current cell.\r\n Record Absolute Records range selections as cell addresses.\r\n\r\nAppendix D: @USER is not supported by 1-2-3 Release 4. Use\r\n@INFO(\"setup-user-name\"} instead.\r\n\r\nAppendix E: Add the macro command {SELECT-RANGE-RELATIVE}. Remove the\r\nmacro commands {PARSE-CREATE} and {PARSE-RESET}.\r\n\r\n\r\nDATALENS DRIVERS FOR 1-2-3\r\n\r\nPages 5 and 6: Wherever the variable [range-name] appears, substitute\r\nthe variable [table-name].\r\n\r\n\r\nMACROS HELP\r\n\r\n{LINK-CREATE} topic: Remove the last sentence from the description of\r\nthe app-name argument.\r\n\r\n\r\n**10. FONT USAGE**\r\n\r\nFONT MAPPING\r\n\r\n1-2-3 Release 4 can map requests for Adobe Type Manager (ATM) fonts to\r\nTrueType fonts, or requests for TrueType fonts to ATM fonts.\r\n\r\nFont mapping is controlled by the TT_MAP statement in the [TTMAPPING]\r\nsection of your 123R4.INI file. When you start 1-2-3 for the first time,\r\n1-2-3 automatically sets TT_MAP according to your configuration.\r\n\r\nNote: When you open a file created with 1-2-3 for DOS, Wysiwyg fonts are\r\nmapped to Windows fonts using the settings in the [FONTMAPPING] section\r\nof your 123R4.INI file.\r\n\r\n\r\nFONT PERFORMANCE TIPS\r\n\r\nUse ATM fonts, such as Arial MT, when rotating text blocks in 1-2-3.\r\nFor information about rotating text blocks, search on \"Rotating drawn\r\nobjects\" in Help.\r\n\r\nUse TrueType fonts to increase printing speed with a Hewlett-Packard\r\nLaserJet IV, because Arial and Times New Roman are internal fonts for\r\nthis printer.\r\n\r\n\r\nINSTALLING AND REMOVING ATM\r\n\r\nIf you installed 1-2-3 on a network node, you can install ATM from the\r\nserver if your network administrator transferred ATM to the server. To\r\ninstall ATM:\r\n\r\n1. Open the Windows Program Manager.\r\n\r\n2. Choose File Run.\r\n\r\n3. Type x:\\path\\ATM\\install in the Command Line text box.\r\n\r\n x:\\path is the driver letter and path for the 1-2-3 directory on your\r\n server. For example, type t:\\123r4w\\atm\\install to install ATM from a\r\n 1-2-3 directory named \\123R4W on drive T:.\r\n\r\n4. Choose OK. \r\n\r\n\r\nIf you run Windows from a network server, you will be able to install ATM\r\nonly if you have write access to the WINDOWS\\SYSTEM directory while you are\r\ninstalling. See your network administrator to get write access to this\r\ndirectory.\r\n\r\nAfter you install ATM, other Windows applications may look slightly\r\ndifferent onscreen because ATM substitutes its scalable fonts for certain\r\nWindows bitmap fonts. The point size at which ATM makes this substitution\r\nis controlled by the SynonymPSBegin= statement in ATM.INI.\r\n\r\nSynonymPSBegin= is initially set to 9; this means ATM substitutes its\r\nfonts for Windows fonts larger than 9 points. If you change this statement\r\nto SynonymPSBegin=13, ATM substitutes its fonts for Windows fonts larger\r\nthan 13 points. Other Windows applications that use 10 and 12 point fonts\r\nwill continue to look the same as they did before you installed ATM.\r\n\r\nIf you experience difficulties with ATM soft fonts, you can remove ATM\r\nfrom your hard disk and re-install it.\r\n\r\nBefore you remove ATM from your hard disk, do the following:\r\n\r\n1. If you installed additional fonts, copy those fonts to a temporary\r\n directory.\r\n\r\n2. Remove all Windows soft fonts from your WIN.INI file. Soft fonts are\r\n listed with the installed printers. In the example below, an * (asterisk)\r\n marks each line to remove.\r\n\r\n [PostScript,LPT2]\r\n device=14\r\n color=2\r\n feed1=1\r\n *softfonts=11\r\n *softfont1=c:\\psfonts\\pfm\\_a______.pfm,c:\\psfonts\\_a______.pfb\r\n *softfont2=c:\\psfonts\\pfm\\bdbc____.pfm,c:\\psfonts\\bdbc____.pfb \r\n\r\nTo remove ATM from your system, do the following:\r\n\r\n1. End Microsoft Windows.\r\n\r\n2. Change the following lines of your SYSTEM.INI file, which is located in\r\n your Windows directory:\r\n\r\n * Change system.drv=atmsys.drv to system.drv=system.drv\r\n \r\n * Delete the line atm.system.drv=system.drv\r\n\r\n Note: These lines may be different on some systems (for example, the \r\n Hewlett-Packard Vectra); however, the result should be a single line\r\n that reads system.drv=system.drv.\r\n\r\n3. Delete the following files:\r\n\r\n * Delete ATM16.DLL and ATM32.DLL from the \\SYSTEM subdirectory of your\r\n Windows directory.\r\n\r\n * Delete ATM.INI and ATMCNTRL.EXE from your Windows directory.\r\n\r\n * Delete any .PFM, .PFB, .SFP, and .SFL files from the directories in\r\n which you installed fonts.\r\n\r\n4. To re-install ATM, start Windows and insert the ATM disk in drive A:.\r\n Open the Windows Program Manager. Choose File Run. Type a:install in\r\n the Command Line text box and then Choose OK."
