Improv Release 2.0. The notes\r\ndescribe problems you might encounter and provide information\r\nnot available in the Improv Handbook, Improv in Action, and the\r\nHelp systems. To print this document, choose File Print.\r\n\r\nINSTALL\r\nIf your system is running the DOS SHARE utility when you install\r\nImprov, then the Improv Install program will be unable to delete\r\na temporary file named INSTMAIN.EXE, which is located in the\r\nsubdirectory named LOTUSTMP, which is located in your Windows\r\ndirectory. After you complete the Install program, manually delete\r\nthe file INSTMAIN.EXE and then remove the LOTUSTMP directory.\r\n\r\nIMPROV GUIDED TOUR\r\n1. For optimal viewing of the Guided Tour, before you launch Improv\r\nfor the first time, turn off any screen saver program and switch\r\nto the Windows 3.1 VGA display driver.\r\n2. Improv attempts to load the Guided Tour the first time that you\r\nlaunch the program. If you delete the Guided Tour before launching\r\nImprov for the first time, be sure to change the following line in the\r\nIMPROV.INI file, which is located in your Windows directory:\r\nChange FirstTime=YES to FirstTime=NO. Changing this line prevents\r\nImprov from trying to launch the tour.\r\n\r\nSAMPLE SCRIPTS\r\nThe following sample library scripts are provided in the Scripts\r\ndirectory. To find out more about how these scripts work, open\r\nthe .LSS files and read the descriptive comments in the scripts.\r\nThe scripts marked with an asterisk (*) are attached to\r\nSmartIcons.\r\n*COLORCEL.LSS - Allows you to assign colors to cells, based on\r\ntheir values. There is an option to color \"All Cells on Recalc.\"\r\nWhen the option is checked, each time the worksheet\r\nrecalculates, the script checks every cell value. To turn this\r\noption off, run the script again, and uncheck the option.\r\n*LOADTMPL.LSS - Allows you to view a dialog box that lets you\r\nchoose from a list of worksheet templates to open. \r\n*ADDINS20.LSS - Registers the add-in @functions for use in\r\nformulas.\r\nSEARCH.LSS - Allows you to search for and/or replace cell values\r\nor text of formulas.\r\nSCRPUTIL.LSS - Includes a set of utilities for writing Improv\r\napplications in LotusScript.\r\n\r\nDEFAULT PATHS\r\nWhen specifying default paths in the Default Paths dialog box\r\n(Tools\\User Setup\\Paths), do not enter a trailing backslash at\r\nthe end of a subdirectory path. For example, enter\r\nC:\\IMPROV\\MYFILES, not C:\\IMPROV\\MYFILES\\. All root directories\r\nmust end with a backslash. For example, enter D:\\.\r\n\r\nPRINTING\r\n1. Multi-line text in a model may appear truncated when you\r\nprint to an HP LaserJet III. To correct this, check Send\r\nTrueType as Graphics in the Options panel of the Print Setup\r\ndialog box and then print the model.\r\n2. Settings on the Print Setup dialog box--for example, paper\r\nsize--are not saved with the Improv model. If you open an\r\nexisting model and notice, for example, that the layout of a\r\npresentation has changed, check the paper size specified in the\r\nPrint Setup dialog box.\r\n3. If you set worksheet grid line styles to double lines, the\r\nspace between the lines may not appear in a print preview. \r\nHowever, the lines will print correctly.\r\n\r\nLOTUS CHART\r\n1. If you get the message \"Cannot create a chart\" when you open\r\na file containing charts, do not save the file or you will lose the\r\ncharts previously contained in the file. Instead, when you get the\r\nmessage, click the Explain button to get more information about resolving\r\nthe problem. Then close the file without saving it.\r\n2. The only information that is linked between the worksheet and\r\na chart is the data that you plot. The legend names and\r\nX-axis names are not linked. Therefore, if you edit an item name, the\r\nchart does not update to reflect the new name.\r\n3. To cut and paste data and keep a chart of that data updated, cut\r\nand paste the cells only. If you cut and paste items, the chart\r\ndoes not update. \r\n4. The High-Low-Close-Open (HLCO) chart layouts that have bars at the\r\nbottom and lines at the top will not display correctly unless\r\nthe chart has five or six data series.\r\n5. The High-Low-Close-Open (HLCO) chart layouts that have no bars at\r\nthe bottom or lines at the top will not display correctly unless\r\nthe chart has four or fewer data series.\r\n6. If you enter a maximum value for the chart scale, the chart\r\nmay not display it if there is not enough room. To correct this,\r\nenlarge the chart vertically, change the major ticks value, or change\r\nthe minimum value.\r\n7. You cannot format the series labels in a pie chart. The series\r\nlabels for other chart types take their format from the Y-axis\r\nlabel format.\r\n8. In a 3D chart, the X-axis tick labels may overlap or appear\r\ntruncated. To correct this, enlarge the plot of the chart or assign\r\na font in a smaller point size to the X-axis.\r\n9. Assigning some fonts to the Y-axis title in a chart results\r\nin horizontal text rather than vertical text appearing in the print\r\npreview; however, the printout appears correctly. These fonts include\r\nFixedSys, Helvetica Narrow, MS Sans Serif, MS Serif, Palatino,\r\nSystem, and ZapfChancery.\r\n\r\nFONTS\r\n1. To assign a font size that is not listed in the InfoBox or on the\r\nstatus bar, you must use LotusScript--for example, use the command\r\nSetIntProperty(0, TextSize, 72) to specify a 72-point font. In\r\nheader/footer text, enter a format code to specify the desired font\r\n--for example, {F 72}.\r\n2. Improv does not support SuperText and SuperPrint (Releases 1.1, 1.2,\r\n2.0, 2.1) from Zenographics.\r\n\r\nTEXT EXPORT\r\nIf you export an unsaved file to a text file, there is no limit\r\nto the size of the file you can export. If you export a saved file\r\nto a text file, you can export a maximum of 8192 rows and 256 columns.\r\n\r\nFILE IMPORT\r\n1. Remove password protection from a file before you import\r\nthe file into Improv.\r\n2. Remove embedded charts and graphic objects from an Excel 4.0 file\r\nbefore you import the file into Improv.\r\n3. When you import a 1-2-3 or Excel file that contains many formulas,\r\nthe import may take a long time. To import the worksheet faster,\r\ndon't import the formulas. To do this, uncheck Import Formulas in\r\nthe Worksheet Import dialog box.\r\n4. When you import a 1-2-3 or Excel file, most functions will be\r\ntranslated into their Improv equivalents; however, you may need to\r\nrecreate some manually after you import the file. For more information,\r\nsee Appendix B of the Improv Handbook, which lists 1-2-3 and Excel\r\nfunctions and their Improv equivalents.\r\n5. Improv can import Excel 4.0 files. If you upgraded from Excel 3.0 to\r\nExcel 4.0, you must save Excel 3.0 files as Excel 4.0 files before\r\nyou import them into Improv. \r\n\r\nDDE LINKS\r\nA DDE link may break without warning if Improv is the server\r\nand you rename, group, or ungroup items that are included in a linked\r\nselection. If the link breaks, delete the link formula and recreate the\r\nlink.\r\n\r\nCOLLATE OPTIONS\r\nIn the International dialog box (Tools/UserSetup/International), the\r\nASCII option actually displays the ANSI character set.\r\n\r\nLOTUSSCRIPT\r\n1. Be aware of the following issues with scripts that use the CloseModel\r\nor CloseIWindow functions to close models:\r\na) If you have a library script that closes the model it is attached to,\r\ndo not attach it to a model. Instead, use a model script for this\r\npurpose. b) Do not debug a library or model script that uses\r\nthe CloseModel function to close the file that contains the\r\nscript.\r\n2. Within a script, reading files from a floppy device that is not\r\nready and then choosing the Cancel option from a \"Drive not ready\"\r\nmessage will cause Improv and Windows to crash. To work around this\r\nproblem, scripts should first include another file operation that\r\nchecks the drive to make sure that it is ready. For example,\r\ninclude the dir$ function in the script, along with a way to exit the\r\nscript if the dir$ fails. Then if the drive is not ready, choosing\r\nCancel will succeed, but the dir$ will fail and the script will stop.\r\nIf the drive is ready, the script can continue with the file operation\r\nthat you originally wanted to perform.\r\n3. If you do not use U.S. as your International country setting,\r\nyou should note the following. Using \"\\$\" within the second argument\r\nto the format$ function will cause the \"$\" to appear at the beginning\r\nof the resulting text--for example, print format$(1234.56,\"#,###.##\\$\")\r\nwill print $1,234.56. If you want the \"$\" trailing the text, use\r\nprint format$(1234.56,\"#,###.##\")+\"$\" which will print 1,234.56$.\r\n4. In scripts, use the float data type to store Improv cell values.\r\nUse the SetLongDoubleCellValue and GetLongDoubleCellValue functions\r\nto set and get Improv cell data. \r\n5. GetBrowserNote doesn't work when the selection is a model script.\r\n6. GetSelection doesn't work when the selection is a library script.\r\n7. Do not assign the same name to two scripts in the same script\r\nlibrary file. This includes scripts with the same names and different\r\ncapitalization. For example, do not name two scripts SCRIPT1 and\r\nscript1.\r\n8. After deleting or renaming a script name in the Script Name box\r\nof the script library window, you must press Enter.\r\n9. Do not debug a script (Tools/Run Script/Debug) containing the command\r\nCreateChart or CmdExec(xcmd_CreateChart). Instead, insert a STOP statement\r\nin the script after these commands. Then to debug the script, run the\r\nscript. The STOP statement will invoke the Debug window, and\r\nyou will be able to debug the script from that point.\r\n10. In Script Help, the description of the parameters for the\r\nGetStringProperty is incorrect. Use the parameter IT_CONTEXT1 to find\r\nthe view/presentation/script name; use the parameter IT_CONTEXT2 to find\r\nthe worksheet name.\r\n \r\nSCRIPT RECORDING AND PLAYBACK\r\n1. Recorded scripts may have references to the specific model that\r\nwas operated on. To use the script on a different view, worksheet,\r\nor model or to make the script more general, edit the lines before\r\nrunning the recorded script.\r\n2. You cannot generalize a script that records changes to\r\nsettings of graphic objects in Presentations because the names\r\nof the objects are generated by Improv.\r\n3. The option to replace data with calculated values when adding\r\na formula does not get recorded. When you run the script, the\r\nformula will be created, but the data values will not be\r\nreplaced. To work around this problem, record clearing the cell\r\nvalues first and then create the formula.\r\n4. When recording moving between views, opening the Browser will\r\nalways be recorded. To move between views without opening the\r\nBrowser, change the SetSelectionByName function call in the\r\nrecorded script to CreateSelHandle, use the OpenIWindow command\r\non the selection, and remove the script text that opens the\r\nBrowser.\r\n5. When editing text, operations such as Cut, Copy, and Paste are\r\nnot recorded. All that is recorded is the resulting edited text.\r\n\r\nLOTUS DIALOG EDITOR\r\nDo not use hard carriage returns when entering text for buttons\r\nor text boxes. Instead, resize the control to allow the text to wrap.\r\n\r\nC API\r\nThe Scripts directory contains an import library file\r\n(LIBPL.LIB) and a header file (CAPI_PUB.H) for C API users. To\r\ncall into the Improv C API interface, create a Windows .DLL file\r\nthat includes the CAPI_PUB.H (Improv C API prototypes) and\r\nlinks with LIBPL.LIB (Improv C API import library)." }
