For technical assistance outside the USA, check the product\r\n packaging for the name, address, and phone number of the\r\n distributor nearest you.\r\n\r\n\r\n 3. Upgrading from Quattro Pro 3\r\n -------------------------------\r\n To upgrade to Quattro Pro 4 from an earlier version of Quattro Pro,\r\n follow the instructions in Chapter 2 of \"Getting Started.\"\r\n\r\n If you previously used BSINST to install additional Bitstream fonts,\r\n you must reinstall them after installing Quattro Pro 4. If you\r\n have the newer type of Bitstream fonts (.SPD files), you must\r\n use SPDINST to install them.\r\n\r\n If you previously installed BORLAND's ProShow ValuePack, you must re-\r\n install it after installing Quattro Pro 4.\r\n\r\n If you have any read-only files in the Quattro Pro directory,\r\n make them read-write before you run INSTALL. If INSTALL encounters\r\n any read-only files, installation can't be successfully completed.\r\n\r\n If you have custom menu trees from earlier versions, save them\r\n to a different directory before you run INSTALL. Copy them\r\n back to the Quattro Pro directory afterwards, then run NEWMU to\r\n translate them to version 4 menu files. This retains all\r\n previous menu structures.\r\n\r\n Upgrading network installations\r\n -------------------------------\r\n When upgrading a network installation of Quattro Pro 3\r\n to version 4, the menu and resource files stored in each user's\r\n private directory must be updated. These include any .MU, .MP,\r\n or .RF files. Replace the .RF files with the updated versions\r\n and create new .MP files using MPMAKE as described in the\r\n \"User's Guide.\"\r\n\r\n\r\n 4. Bitstream fonts\r\n ------------------\r\n Quattro Pro uses Bitstream's typefaces and enabling software, \r\n producing high-quality bitmap fonts. When you look closely at printed \r\n output from Quattro Pro, you may occasionally notice extra white space \r\n between characters. This is not a problem with your fonts. This extra\r\n white space is commonly reduced using a composition function called \r\n kerning. Quattro Pro 4 does not offer kerning.\r\n\r\n You can access Bitstream fonts in two places:\r\n /Style|FontTable|Edit Fonts|Typeface\r\n /Style|Fonts|Typeface\r\n\r\n\r\n 5. WYSIWYG mode\r\n ---------------\r\n There are new default spreadsheet colors in version 4. These colors\r\n appear in text display mode only, not in WYSIWYG mode.\r\n If you want to use the version 3 text-mode colors,\r\n choose /Options|Colors|Palettes|Version 3 Color.\r\n\r\n When using proportional fonts in WYSIWYG mode, the following commands\r\n may produce inappropriate results: /Style|Column Width; /Style|Block\r\n Size|Set Width, Reset Width, and Auto Width; /Tool|Reformat, and\r\n Parse. For best results, change to a text display mode before using\r\n these commands.\r\n\r\n\r\n 6. Problems using a mouse\r\n -------------------------\r\n Display problems using Quattro Pro and Microsoft mouse driver version\r\n 7.04 disappear after CONFIG.SYS is changed to \"device=mouse.sys /Y\".\r\n\r\n If the mouse pointer doesn't appear on screen, you may need to update\r\n your mouse driver. See \"Extended text display mode\" in Chapter 1 of\r\n the \"User's Guide.\"\r\n\r\n\r\n 7. Running under Windows\r\n ------------------------\r\n If you want to run Quattro Pro in a small window (instead of full-\r\n screen), either delete the file EGASPL.PCX, rename it, or move it to\r\n another directory. Within Quattro Pro, set the display mode to\r\n one of the text modes. This way, Quattro Pro won't start up in\r\n graphics mode.\r\n\r\n\r\n 8. Sound files\r\n --------------\r\n You may not be able to play sound files when running under Microsoft\r\n Windows in 386/Enhanced mode, or while running under Quarterdeck\r\n DESQView. When using the above configurations, save your spreadsheets\r\n before experimenting with sound files. See Chapter 13 of the \"User's\r\n Guide\" for instructions on using sound files.\r\n\r\n If you would like to order additional sound effects, see the coupon\r\n from RealSound that is included in your Quattro Pro package.\r\n\r\n\r\n 9. Slide transitions\r\n ---------------------\r\n Some video adapters don't support all slide transitions. If you find\r\n that one transition doesn't work with your video adapter, try \r\n another.\r\n\r\n\r\n 10. Using Expanded memory\r\n -------------------------\r\n Quattro Pro can use up to 8MB of expanded memory.\r\n\r\n To test whether your EMS hardware and software are working correctly,\r\n run EMSTEST.COM from DOS and follow instructions on the screen. If\r\n errors are detected, contact your local hardware dealer.\r\n\r\n\r\n 11. Printing\r\n ------------\r\n Font 1 (Normal font) controls both vertical and horizontal spacing.\r\n\r\n The vertical height of a row is calculated as follows:\r\n * A manual row-height setting overrules the default row height.\r\n * If the height of the row has not been manually set, the \r\n height is determined by either the largest font in that row\r\n or the height of Font 1, whichever is largest.\r\n\r\n If the selector is within an inserted graph block, /Print|Graph\r\n Print|Go will always print the inserted graph. To print a\r\n different graph, position the selector outside the inserted graph\r\n and use /Print|Graph Print|Name to select a different graph.\r\n\r\n In text mode, when printing to a Color PostScript printer,\r\n black shading is controlled by the foreground color of /Options|\r\n Color|Spreadsheet|Shading. For black shading, choose foreground\r\n color of black and background color of any other color.\r\n\r\n In WYSIWYG mode, when printing to a color or black & white\r\n PostScript printer, black shading may appear gray. Use /Options|\r\n Colors|Spreadsheet|WYSIWYG Colors|Shaded Cells to choose a color\r\n other than gray.\r\n\r\n\r\n 12. Links in a 1-2-3 version 2.2 file\r\n -------------------------------------\r\n The maximum number of different spreadsheets that a Quattro Pro\r\n spreadsheet can link to is 62. If a 2.2 file has links to more\r\n than 62 files, Quattro Pro stops reading data after the 62nd\r\n link. Data beyond that point will not be loaded.\r\n\r\n To load a 2.2 spreadsheet with more than 62 links, convert\r\n the links into their values first, or relocate the important\r\n links into a link library and keep the links to 62 or less.\r\n\r\n\r\n 13. Importing a .WK1 file\r\n -------------------------\r\n If the .WK1 file you're importing has Allways or WYSIWYG/Impress\r\n formatting, Quattro Pro asks if you want to import it. If you\r\n answer yes, the file is imported with a .WQ1 file extension.\r\n\r\n\r\n 14. Allways formatting\r\n ----------------------\r\n Allways formatting is translated when importing a 1-2-3 version 2.2\r\n file.\r\n\r\n\r\n 15. Cell references in a 1-2-3 version 3x file\r\n ----------------------------------------------\r\n If a .WK3 file has multiple spreadsheets, 3-D cell references\r\n are translated with @@ . For example, the formula\r\n +D:A1*100 in BUDGETS.WK3 converts to @@(\"[BUDGETS.W0D]A1\")*100.\r\n\r\n\r\n 16. Importing LICS and LMBCS\r\n ----------------------------\r\n Choose /Options|International|LICS/LMBCS Conversion|Yes before\r\n importing a 1-2-3 file that contains international characters.\r\n\r\n\r\n 17. Sample .QLL file\r\n --------------------\r\n Quattro Pro includes a file called SAMPLE.QLL, which contains several\r\n add-in @functions. You can load this file with the /Tools|Library|Load\r\n command. Once this file is loaded, the following additional @functions\r\n are available:\r\n\r\n ADD-IN @FUNCTION DESCRIPTION\r\n ================================================================\r\n sinh(x) (exp(x) - exp(-x))/2\r\n cosh(x) (exp(x) + exp(-x))/2\r\n tanh(x) sinh(x)/cosh(x)\r\n hypot(x,y) sqrt(x^2+y^2)\r\n add_months(x,y) date obtained by adding y months to date x.\r\n It handles the end of the month and year\r\n as follows:\r\n 30-Nov-91 + 2 mon = 30-Jan-92\r\n 30-Nov-91 + 3 mon = 29-Feb-92\r\n last_day(x) returns the last day of month of the serial\r\n date number x (the time of day is dropped\r\n from the serial number)\r\n\r\n Use the following syntax with these @functions:\r\n\r\n @LIBRARY.function (for example, @SAMPLE.sinh(x)).\r\n\r\n\r\n 18. Selecting blocks in macros\r\n ------------------------------\r\n In macros, use {/ Macro;RetainBlock} to retain selected blocks as \r\n Quattro Pro 4 does; use {/ Macro;NoRetainBlock} to\r\n do block selection as Quattro Pro 3x did. Unless you\r\n use {/ Macro;RetainBlock}, blocks are retained like\r\n Quattro Pro 3x in macro execution.\r\n\r\n\r\n 19. Documentation corrections\r\n -----------------------------\r\n Here are some minor corrections to the manuals:\r\n o The /Print|Layout|Percent Scaling command is now called \r\n % Scaling.\r\n o Step 3 on page 674 of the \"User's Guide\" should include:\r\n Type: SPDINST and press Enter\r\n o The correct menu-equivalent macro command for the Max Bubble Size\r\n option in the /Graph|Customize Series dialog box for bubble\r\n graphs in the \"@Functions and Macros\" manual (pages 201 and 226)\r\n is {/ Bubble;Size}.\r\n o There is a menu-equivalent macro command {/ Protection;Formstatus}\r\n to find the status of formula protection.\r\n\r\n\r\n 20. Solve For improvements\r\n --------------------------\r\n Due to an improved solver engine, the Solve For command \r\n might give slightly different answers than in previous versions\r\n of Quattro Pro.\r\n\r\n Solve For is now more sensitive to the starting values\r\n supplied in nonlinear problems and might display the message\r\n \"No feasible solution can be found.\" Solve For tries solving \r\n the problem, but first warns you that the result may not be\r\n optimal because of your starting variable value. Since the\r\n results are probably close, choose Go again, or use a different\r\n starting value and try again.\r\n\r\n\r\n 21. Optimizer tip\r\n -----------------\r\n For best performance, we suggest you use Optimizer in text\r\n display mode.\r\n\r\n\r\n 22. Dual values in Optimizer\r\n ----------------------------\r\n If dual values in the answer report are close to zero, choose\r\n Go again a few times to refine them. The solution will stay the\r\n same, but dual values will converge.\r\n\r\n\r\n 23. Who should use Overstrike Print\r\n -----------------------------------\r\n /Options|International|Overstrike Print remaps accented characters \r\n according to the French ISO character set. It is intended primarily\r\n for French Canadian users of the U.S. English version of Quattro Pro.\r\n You might not get the expected overstrike characters on a U.S. 7-bit\r\n printer.\r\n\r\n\r\n 24. Printing from Audit\r\n -----------------------\r\n When you choose /Tools|Audit|Destination|Print, the following print\r\n settings are used from the Print Layout dialog box:\r\n o Break Pages\r\n o % Scaling\r\n o Margins\r\n o Orientation (but Banner prints as Landscape)\r\n\r\n You might want to set Break Pages to No when printing Label\r\n References, Blank References, ERR, or External Link audits.\r\n\r\n\r\n 25. Pre-formatting cells\r\n ------------------------\r\n If you pre-format a group of cells with a custom date format,\r\n then press Ctrl-D to enter a date, the custom format is overwritten\r\n with the default date format. Try entering all the dates first, then\r\n applying the custom date format.\r\n\r\n\r\n 26. Format code for a number in scientific notation\r\n ---------------------------------------------------\r\n To create format code for scientific notation, follow this example:\r\n\r\n Cell contents Format code Display as\r\n ------------- ----------- ----------\r\n 123456 N0.00e+0 123e+5\r\n\r\n\r\n 27. Network users\r\n -----------------\r\n Quattro Pro lets you log in to any NetWare file server you have\r\n rights to. However, you can't log in to the same server as two\r\n different users from one station. If you try, you see the message\r\n \"Already logged in to server as a different user.\"\r\n\r\n If you're performing a network task within Quattro Pro, such as\r\n running a print-queue monitor, and the network goes down, you\r\n might need to reboot after exiting Quattro Pro.\r\n\r\n\r\n 28. How to customize an overriding graph type\r\n ---------------------------------------------\r\n To customize the overriding graph type series, set\r\n /Graph|Graph Type to the overriding type. In the dialog\r\n box, select the overriding series, then set the options\r\n you want. Finally, set Graph Type back to the overall type.\r\n\r\n For example, if the graph is a bar graph and the second series is\r\n set to Override Type|Line, choose /Graph|Graph Type|Line, then\r\n choose Customize Series. Choose 2nd Series, then change the\r\n options for a line. Choose Quit, then set Graph Type back to Bar.\r\n\r\n\r\n 29. The Borland Print Spooler\r\n -----------------------------\r\n If you use DOS 5.0 when installing BPS.COM, don't use LOADHI BPS.COM.\r\n\r\n If you're printing to LPT3, LPT4, PRN, or EPT with background\r\n printing enabled, the device will be remapped to LPT1.\r\n\r\n If you load BPS.COM, then load a TSR program (such as a Novell\r\n NetWare driver), you should unload the TSR program before\r\n unloading BPS.COM to avoid problems.\r\n\r\n\r\n 30. Exporting to a Harvard Graphics file\r\n ----------------------------------------\r\n Elements created with Quattro Pro's Annotator are lost if\r\n you export to a Harvard Graphics file.\r\n\r\n\r\n 31. Installing different character sets\r\n ---------------------------------------\r\n Contrary to the instructions in Appendix K of the User's\r\n Guide, you must reinstall Quattro Pro 4 to install a different\r\n character set.\r\n\r\n\r\n 32. Enhanced fonts\r\n ------------------\r\n\r\n If you customize fonts in a Quattro Pro 4 file, the fonts will\r\n change if you load the file in an earlier version of Quattro Pro.\r\n\r\n\r\n 33. Clearing a custom style\r\n ---------------------------\r\n\r\n Clearing a custom style with /Style|Define Style|Erase returns\r\n General numeric format to the block."
