following information reflects changes made since the Delrina\r\nWinFax PRO Setup Guide and User's Guide went to press, and should \r\nbe reviewed prior to running WinFax.\r\n\r\nWhere applicable, these notes refer to specific sections in the \r\nappropriate manual.\r\n\r\nWinFax online help can provide you with detailed information when \r\nyou need it most -- while you are using WinFax. To get help from \r\nany dialog or window in WinFax, press F1.\r\n\r\nImportant Information\r\n=====================\r\nUnfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Delrina is unable\r\nto offer the Fax MailBox Service or the remote retrieval feature\r\nat this time.\r\n\r\nWe ask that you ignore all references to Delrina Fax MailBox\r\nService or the remote retrieval capability in your WinFax PRO\r\nmanuals and other materials.\r\n\r\nWe apologize for any inconvenience this recent change may have \r\ncaused.\r\n\r\nGeneral\r\n=======\r\nLoad SHARE.EXE for installing and running WinFax\r\n------------------------------------------------\r\nRunning SHARE is strongly recommended, both for installing and\r\nrunning WinFax PRO 4.0.\r\n\r\nSHARE is a DOS program that provides file sharing and locking \r\ncapabilities. Running SHARE prevents a file or database record \r\nfrom being edited by two applications at the same time, which \r\nmight result in data loss. Using SHARE with WinFax is recommended \r\nif several people have a common phonebook on a network, or \r\notherwise share data. SHARE also enhances OCR and phonebook \r\nfunctionality.\r\n\r\nThe command to load SHARE can be run at the DOS prompt, or\r\nadded to your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file. Check your\r\nDOS manual for the setting suitable for your system.\r\n\r\nUpgrading from a previous version of WinFax \r\n(Setup Guide, page 2-10)\r\n-------------------------------------------\r\nIf you install WinFax PRO 4.0 in a different location than your\r\nold version of WinFax, your old send and receive logs are NOT \r\nautomatically linked or converted. To create a folder containing \r\nyour old sent and received faxes:\r\n\r\n1. In the WinFax main module, open the Send Log or Receive Log \r\n window.\r\n\r\n2. In the Folder list, double click New Folder. The New Archive \r\n folder dialog appears.\r\n\r\n3. Type a folder name.\r\n\r\n4. Click Select. The Archive Filename dialog appears. Specify or \r\n select the location of your old send and receive log file. The \r\n file name is STATUS.FTM and is located in your old \r\n \\WINFAX\\DATA directory. Click OK.\r\n\r\n5. In the New Archive folder dialog, click OK.\r\n\r\nCreating an archive folder for old send and receive events does \r\nnot move the actual fax images to your new WinFax directory. Do \r\nnot delete your old WinFax \\DATA directory or your archived \r\nevents will be lost.\r\n\r\nYou can use the same procedure to import old archive folders. An \r\narchive folder has an .FTM extension.\r\n\r\nComma pause time and credit card dial strings\r\n---------------------------------------------\r\nThe default comma pause time in WinFax PRO 4.0 is 2 seconds, and \r\nyou cannot modify this value from within the program. During\r\ninstallation, the WinFax Setup program will detect if you have set\r\na comma pause time value of greater than 2 in a previous version\r\nof WinFax. If detected, any existing credit card dial strings will\r\nbe automatically supplemented with additional commas up to what\r\nthe Credit Card Number field will accommodate within its 20-\r\ncharacter limit. Each comma in the dial string will be replaced\r\nwith the appropriate number of additional commas (rounding up).\r\n\r\nFor example, if the comma pause time was set to 3 seconds in \r\nWinFax PRO 3.0, a credit card string of ...\r\n\r\n82,,123456\r\n\r\n... would change to ...\r\n\r\n82,,,,123456\r\n\r\nIf you have used commas for pauses in dial prefixes or phone \r\nnumbers in any phonebook records, you must adjust those \r\nindividually after installing WinFax PRO 4.0.\r\n\r\nFax-a-File/File Transfer Considerations\r\n---------------------------------------\r\nIf you have a Class 1 or CAS fax/modem, you can use Fax-a-File \r\nfor transferring binary files. Check the following list for a \r\ndescription of the event transmission types supported by \r\nyour fax/modem.\r\n\r\n* Class 1 fax/modems support the following Fax-a-File event \r\n transmission types:\r\n\r\n BFT\r\n ---\r\n When you select BFT, WinFax determines the capabilities of \r\n the remote device and sends your event using either of the \r\n following BFT formats:\r\n\r\n - Microsoft At Work(TM), Microsoft's BFT format with advanced \r\n security features for sending key-encrypted and digitally \r\n signed events. The recipient must be running software that \r\n supports Microsoft At Work -- for example, Windows for\r\n Workgroups 3.11 -- with a Class 1 fax/modem.\r\n\r\n - Standard CCITT T.434 binary file transfer\r\n The recipient must be using a BFT-capable fax device, such \r\n as a Class 1 fax/modem with the appropriate fax software. \r\n Some fax machines can also receive BFT events.\r\n\r\n Compressed BFT\r\n --------------\r\n Compressed BFT provides faster WinFax to WinFax file transfer,\r\n because files are sent compressed. The recipient must be \r\n running WinFax PRO 4.0 or later with a Class 1 fax/modem. When \r\n sending, you can change to this transmission type by selecting\r\n Compressed BFT from the Send By drop-down list in the Schedule/\r\n Modify Events dialog.\r\n\r\n* CAS fax/modems support the SatisFAXtion event transmission type \r\n -- an Intel CAS BFT format. Both you and the recipient must be \r\n running CAS software and fax/modems that support Intel \r\n SatisFAXtion file transfer.\r\n\r\n* Class 2 fax/modems do not support Fax-a-File transmissions. \r\n With a Class 2 fax/modem, you can send conventional faxes only.\r\n\r\nWhen defining recipients in phonebooks, you have two choices in \r\nthe Connections section of the Phonebook Recipient dialog - \r\neither Fax and BFT, or Fax and SatisFAXtion. When sending to a \r\nrecipient defined as BFT, WinFax determines what kind of device \r\nit is communicating with, and uses the Microsoft At Work or T.434 \r\nprotocol, as appropriate.\r\n\r\nAt the time you are sending an event, you have three options, \r\navailable from the Send By drop-down list in the Schedule/Modify \r\nEvents dialog: Fax, BFT and Compressed BFT. When you choose \r\nCompressed BFT, WinFax determines whether it is communicating \r\nwith another computer that is running WinFax PRO 4.0, and uses \r\nthe Compressed BFT protocol, as appropriate. If the recipient is\r\nnot WinFax, but is running software that supports Microsoft At\r\nWork, such as Windows for Workgroups 3.11, with a Class 1 fax/\r\nmodem, WinFax sends using the Microsoft At Work protocol.\r\n\r\n* Microsoft At Work is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation.\r\n\r\nDisabling Microsoft PC Fax with Windows for Workgroups 3.11 \r\n-----------------------------------------------------------\r\nIf you are running Windows for Workgroups 3.11, the WinFax Setup \r\nprogram will disable Microsoft PC Fax if it detects this fax \r\nutility on your system. The Setup program checks your \r\nMSMAIL.INI file for the following:\r\n\r\n[EFAX Transport]\r\nLocalFax=1\r\n\r\nIf LocalFax=1 is detected, or this section is not present, \r\nthe WinFax Setup program adds or modifies the setting \r\nas follows:\r\n\r\n[EFAX Transport]\r\nLocalFax=0\r\n\r\nYou cannot install WinFax while MS PC Fax is running. This problem may \r\noccur more frequently if you are running Windows for Workgroups \r\n3.11. \r\n\r\nUsing WinFax with Intermission and the Opus 'n Bill screen saver\r\n---------------------------------------------------------------\r\nWhen using WinFax with Intermission and Opus 'n Bill, your screen \r\nmay intermittently display a blank screen instead of the selected \r\nscreen saver module. Before it activates the screen saver, \r\nIntermission checks to see if the Opus 'n Bill screen saver \r\nmodule might conflict with WinFax trying to send or receive \r\nfaxes. The blank screen display ensures that fax transmissions \r\nare not interrupted.\r\n\r\nMaximum ten keywords, billing codes and prefixes \r\nin drop-down lists\r\n------------------------------------------------\r\nThe drop-down lists for keywords, billing codes and dial prefixes \r\ncan store the ten most recently used entries. If you have ten \r\nentries in one of these lists and add one more, the new entry and \r\nthe nine most recently added entries are saved. The oldest entry \r\nin the list is removed. You can specify keywords and billing \r\ncodes in the Schedule/Modify Events dialog, and dial prefixes in \r\nthe Send Options and User Setup dialogs. The ten-entry limit \r\napplies to what is displayed in the drop-down lists only, and \r\nnot the total number of keywords and billing codes you can \r\nspecify for your faxes.\r\n\r\nPhonebooks maintain duplicate records to avoid data loss\r\n--------------------------------------------------------\r\nIf you import an ASCII data record to a WinFax phonebook, and the \r\nphonebook already contains a recipient record with the same name \r\nand company, a duplicate recipient record is created. Similarly, \r\nif you copy multiple recipient records with the same name and \r\ncompany to another phonebook, WinFax does not merge or overwrite \r\nrecords.\r\n\r\nUsing the WinFax OLE Template option with \r\nMicrosoft Word for Windows 6.0\r\n-----------------------------------------\r\nIf you are creating an OLE cover page in WinFax using Microsoft \r\nWord 6.0, select the Insert option in WinFax (Cover Page/OLE/\r\nInsert).
