Windows(TM) or DOS. The\r\ninstructions on the card supersede all installation procedures and\r\ndisk content tables described in the Autodesk Animator Reference\r\nManual and in the Autodesk Animation Player for Windows Reference\r\nManual.\r\n\r\n\r\nDemo Files\r\n==========\r\n\r\nBesides the package contents listed on the READ ME FIRST\r\ninstallation card, there are hundreds of additional animation and\r\nimage files included on the CD-ROM. You can view these demos directly \r\nfrom the CD by going to the root directory of the CD and typing DEMO. \r\n\r\nIf you are running under Microsoft Windows and install Autodesk \r\nAnimation Player for Windows, the program automatically creates icons \r\nfor the demos. Six icons appear in your Animation window: 2D Animations, \r\nALL Animations (this demo takes about 2 hours to run), Misc Animations, \r\nAnimator Clips, AutoShade Animations, and 3D Studio Animations.\r\nDouble-click on one of these icons to run the associated demo. \r\n\r\nThe playback speed of the demo flics depends on the speed setting with\r\nwhich they were saved and on the speed of your CD-ROM drive. They \r\ninclude sound, which you can hear if you have Microsoft Windows with \r\nMultimedia Extensions and sound equipment. \r\n\r\n\r\nAutodesk Animation Player for Windows\r\n=====================================\r\n\r\nThis section contains information pertinent to Autodesk Animation \r\nPlayer(TM) for Windows version 1.0.\r\n\r\nConverting an Animation File\r\n----------------------------\r\nIt is recommended that you convert animation files to be used with \r\nAutodesk Animation Player for Windows with the Convert Anim\r\noption, located in the File menu. This may help maintain the \r\ncorrect colors in an animation, and eliminate \"flashes\" that can\r\nsometimes occur between animations while playing a script.\r\n\r\nMicrosoft Windows uses 20 of the 256 colors available for the\r\nWindows desktop, leaving only 236 colors available for your\r\nanimation. Convert Anim converts the animation palette to a palette \r\nthat is more compatible with Windows. For more information about\r\nConvert Anim, see the Autodesk Animation Player for Windows\r\nReference Manual.\r\n\r\nErrata\r\n------\r\nAutodesk Animation Player for Windows Reference Manual, page 26: \r\n\r\n o Videodisc. If you want to play a portion of a videodisc,\r\n select this device. Identify the sound by specifying a\r\n start time and stop time in this format:\r\n\r\n from pos to pos\r\n\r\n In this case, pos (position) is a time in hh:mm:ss format. \r\n Your videodisc player might display position in this format, \r\n or it might display position as a frame number. To convert \r\n from frame numbers to time, divide by 30 to get seconds, and\r\n then convert to hh:mm:ss format. The from position must\r\n be at least 1 second. For example, enter\r\n\r\n from 0:0:1 to 0:4:0\r\n\r\n to play 4 minutes on the disc.\r\n\r\n\r\nAutodesk Animator 1.02\r\n======================\r\n\r\nThis section includes information pertinent to Autodesk \r\nAnimator(TM) 1.02 that was not included in the Autodesk Animator\r\nReference Manual.\r\n\r\nMACRO: A LEARNING TOOL\r\n----------------------\r\nIncluded in your package is the macro recording Welcome.rec. \r\nUse this macro to explore step by step many Autodesk \r\nAnimator tools and techniques; you can watch an animation being \r\ncreated. Some of the animation effects you will see are optical\r\nmotions, color cycling, shadowing, and various ink and tool image- \r\nenhancing effects. \r\n\r\nFollow these steps to run the Welcome.rec macro:\r\n\r\nFirst, load the Welcome.rec macro:\r\n1. Select Record from the Extra menu.\r\n The Macro Recording menu appears.\r\n2. Select Files from the Macro Recording menu.\r\n The Files panel appears.\r\n3. Click on Load.\r\n A panel listing available macro files appears.\r\n4. Click on the Welcome.rec macro file (the filename \r\n appears in the file entry box.)\r\n5. Click on OK and right-click on the drawing screen\r\n to return to the Home panel.\r\n\r\nNext, run the Welcome.rec macro:\r\n1. Select Record from the Extra menu.\r\n2. Select Use Macro from the Macro Recording menu.\r\n The Welcome.rec macro begins.\r\n\r\nPress [Esc] to stop the macro any time during playback.\r\n\r\nAfter the macro has ended, play back the animation:\r\no Go to the Home panel at the bottom of the screen and\r\n click on the set of double-arrows in the middle of the\r\n panel.\r\n\r\nNote: When using the Repeat Macro command for a macro that \r\nchanges the default tools and inks, be sure to include a \r\nReset at the end of the macro when it is created. This will \r\nensure that the slider bar is set to the proper position for \r\naccurate tool/ink selection during playback. \r\n\r\nSCRIPT FILE MOVIES\r\n------------------\r\nThe file Movies is a sample script file that plays animations \r\nin a continual loop. You can edit this file to include any \r\nfilenames you want, to create your own movie. Assuming\r\naaplay.exe is in the same directory, type AAPLAY MOVIES to run\r\nthe script.\r\n\r\nNote: Press [Esc] to stop the file Movies any time while it's\r\nplaying. This script file is not compatible with Autodesk\r\nAnimation Player for Windows.\r\n\r\nFor more information on script files, see appendix E, \"The Autodesk\r\nAnimator Player\" in the Autodesk Animator Reference Manual.\r\n\r\nPLAYER - LOCKED KEYBOARD\r\n-------------------------\r\nIf you locked your keyboard during playback (if you used a Ctrl-\r\ncombination), pressing the [Break] key temporarily halts\r\nplayback. To resume playback, press the spacebar.\r\n\r\nSUMMASKETCH TABLET\r\n------------------\r\nIf you installed Autodesk Animator for a SummaSketch tablet and\r\nwant to run the Converter program with a tablet as well, you should\r\nput the Autodesk Animator configuration file (aa.cfg) in the same \r\ndirectory as convert.exe. \r\n\r\nYou cannot install a SummaSketch Tablet to run with the Player\r\nprogram. Use the Keyboard Alternatives if you have a tablet, or \r\ninstall a mouse to select Menu items in the Player.\r\n\r\nWhen switching between a Stylus and a Puck, you must reconfigure \r\nfrom the Extra Menu. This ensures that the buttons on each \r\ndevice perform correctly.\r\n\r\nVGA/MCGA DISPLAYS\r\n-----------------\r\nSometimes when you start your computer, the VGA mode of a display \r\ncard is not correctly initiated. If this hardware mishap \r\noccurs, Autodesk Animator cannot recognize your display card as\r\na VGA and this error message appears: \"Not a VGA/MCGA\r\ndisplay. Sorry.\"\r\n\r\nIf you have a VGA display, first be sure that it is correctly\r\ninstalled. Next, power down your system and try again.\r\n\r\nTEMPORARY DRIVES AND VDISKS\r\n---------------------------\r\nWhen you use a temp disk or a VDISK that is full, a requestor box\r\nappears and you can choose a new drive. If that disk is\r\ndangerously full, an alert box appears. If you continue to use the\r\nprogram at this point without securing disk space, satisfactory\r\nresults are not guaranteed.\r\n\r\nMARQUEE BOX\r\n-----------\r\nWhen using functions that require the marquee box, it will appear\r\non screen as moving dashes. It will also appear as a solid color\r\nif the palette has been squeezed to a very small number. If you\r\nwant to return the marquee box to moving dashes, turn on the FIT\r\nand ALL buttons and select Default from the Value Menu. \r\n\r\nKEY COLOR\r\n---------\r\nClear from the Pic Menu will set the screen to the current key\r\ncolor. New from the Flic Menu will keep the screen set at color\r\nregister 0, black.\r\n\r\nFONTS\r\n-----\r\nThe font army24.fnt supplied on Disk #4 is an ALL CAPS font. This\r\nfont is not meant to be used for upper- and lowercase text.\r\n\r\nPANELS\r\n------\r\nWhen looping back through a series of panels, an alert box appears\r\nasking you to r-click on screen rather than clicking on the panel\r\nbutton to return to the panel you want.\r\n\r\nTWEENING\r\n--------\r\nPg. 109 in the Autodesk Animator Reference Manual and pg. 100 in\r\nthe Autodesk Animator Tutorial states that the start shape should\r\nhave as many or more points than the end shape. This has been\r\nupdated in Autodesk Animator v1.01. The start shape can have more\r\npoints or less points than the end shape.\r\n\r\nERROR MESSAGES\r\n--------------\r\n\"Drive (x) has (x) Free Bytes. 200000 Recommended for Error Free \r\nOperation. Use (x) anyway?\" \r\n\r\nThis occurs when a temp drive has less than 200k available during \r\nan operation or a temp drive with less than 200k is chosen as a \r\nresult of a file truncated error message. Select a drive that\r\ncontains over 200,000 bytes free. If you decided to use the full\r\ntemp drive anyway, proper functionality is not guaranteed.\r\n\r\n\"Shape too big to fill\"\r\n\r\nThis message occurs when tweening or rendering a filled shape in\r\nthe optics panel that is too large. Decrease the size of the shape\r\nand render it once again. \r\n\r\n\"Cannot create directory entry\"\r\n\r\nThis occurs when the maximum number of files for a directory has\r\nbeen reached. Delete unnecessary files and try again.\r\n\r\nFLIMAKER\r\n--------\r\nThe script filename is the minimum requirement for a valid command\r\nline argument following the Flimaker command. For example: \r\n\r\n flimaker [-v] \r\n\r\nA file extension is not required within a script file. Autodesk\r\nAnimator Flimaker searches first for a .rnd then a .sld file. If it\r\nfinds neither, it reports \">>[filename] File not found,\r\nskipping...\" and continues to read the file. \r\n\r\nNOTE: If both .rnd and .sld files are included in the script\r\nwithout extensions and have the same filename, Autodesk Animator\r\nFlimaker processes them both as .rnd files. \r\n\r\n\r\nYou can add comments to the script file with an * at the beginning\r\nand end to identify the comment line. For example:\r\n \r\n * this script file results in a four-frame .fli file.*\r\n\r\n\r\nOnce a script file has been processed, the total number of frames\r\ncompiled is displayed. For example:\r\n \r\n \"4 frames compiled. Autodesk Animator file \r\n .fli successfully created.\"\r\n\r\n\r\nYou can install the AutoShade(R) RDVGA ADI(R) driver and use it\r\nwith the Record option in AutoShade to create .rnd files.
