We greatly look\r\nforward to satisfying your sequencing needs now and for many years to come.\r\n\r\n\tUnless you have already done so, please mail us your product\r\nregistration card, so that we can automatically send you a free song disk,\r\nand information about upcoming product upgrades and updates.\r\n\r\n\tWe encourage you to contact us with any comments or questions that may\r\narise as you use our program. Midisoft Technical Support; PO Box 1000; \r\nBellevue WA 98009; USA; FAX 206-883-1368. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nISSUES YOU MIGHT ENCOUNTER WITH THIS RELEASE:\r\n\r\n1) If you find that occasionally you lose the mouse cursor, you might be \r\n\tencountering a hardware conflict between Mouse and MIDI that occurs \r\n\trarely in Enhanced-mode Windows (on VERY FEW machines). If you use our \r\n\tprogram in Standard-mode Windows (Start Windows with WIN/S), this \r\n\tproblem disappears.\r\n2) If you have trouble getting MIDI Input, the problem is very likely\r\n\ta hardware interrupt conflict. Take inventory of the other cards you\r\n\thave in your system, and make sure the MIDI card has a unique\r\n\tinterrupt level and I/O address. Note: The Windows Drivers for MIDI \r\n\tuse Interrupts only for MIDI In, not for MIDI Out. So if MIDI Out \r\n\t(playing) seems to work fine, that is NO indication that you have your \r\n\tcard's interrupt set correctly.\r\n3) If you have trouble getting playback, we recommend you simplify your test\r\n\tconfiguration by simply using the Media Player provided in Windows.\r\n\tThis program will play back any of the MIDI files provided with\r\n\tMidisoft Studio provided that you have configured your MIDI Mapper\r\n\tto playback the low channels (1-10). If you can successfully get\r\n\tthe MIDI Mapper to playback within Windows, then you will be able\r\n\tto get Midisoft Studio to playback by selecting MIDI Drivers/\r\n\tMultimedia Drivers/MIDI Mapper from the Setup Menu.\r\n4) When in Score View, if you have trouble selecting notes to edit, you might \r\n\ttry changing the clef to make sure the notes appear on the staff.\r\n\tAnother option is to start a Click & Drag region from within the staff\r\n\tand end it outside the staff. Similarly, to select rests (for the \r\n\tSplice Cut/Paste operations), do so by selecting click & drag region \r\n\tthat includes the rest.\r\n5) If you are running on a 1-2Mb computer, your usage of memory will affect \r\n\tthe operation of our program. We recommend that you use HIMEM.SYS\r\n\t(to access the high 384K Extended Ram), but don't tie up any\r\n\tRAM into SMARTDRV.SYS. If Studio for Windows claims not to have\r\n\tenough memory, Windows might not be correctly detecting high memory.\r\n\tOn a 1 Mb configuration, we recommend you ascertain that Windows has\r\n\tat least 600K available before running Studio for Windows. You can\r\n\tcheck your available memory by selecting \"About Program Manager\" in\r\n\tthe Windows Program Manager's Help menu. We do not run in 640K\r\n\tmachines (and thus not Real Mode Windows), nor do we suggest\r\n\tusing Expanded RAM (Windows runs best using EXTENDED RAM, not\r\n\tEXPANDED). Special note: This may not be possible if you are\r\n\tusing Windows 3.1. As mentioned on our box, the minimum RAM\r\n\trequirement for Windows 3.1 and Midisoft Studio is 2 Meg.\r\n6) Because Midisoft Studio for Windows' MIDI drivers require instant access to\r\n\tmemory, problems can be avoided by not using memory managers (such as\r\n\tearlier versions of QEMM) which intercept and map memory calls. \r\n\tWe recommend that you simply use the HIMEM.SYS driver that comes with \r\n\tWindows. Similarly, TSR programs that are feeding off your computer's \r\n\tclock can also cause problems. If you are getting machine crashes or \r\n\tlock ups, we suggest clearing out your machine's startup files \r\n\t(AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS) to the bare minimum (even remove DOS shells) \r\n\tand try running Studio for Windows again before contacting our \r\n\ttechnical support department.\r\n\t\tSpecifically, remove non-essential entries in your CONFIG.SYS\r\n\tand AUTOEXEC.BAT files, as well as bringing down the FILES= and\r\n\tBUFFERS= values in your CONFIG.SYS. If you are using DOS 5 (or later),\r\n\talso make sure that you have a DOS=HIGH entry in CONFIG.SYS.\r\n7) Currently, our stand-alone Roland drivers are more efficient and more\r\n\trobust than those included in Windows 3.1. For this reason, we \r\n\trecommend that if you have a Roland-compatible or Midisoft Midiface \r\n\tcard, use our drivers instead of those in the Win31/Multimedia \r\n\tExtensions. To do so, select \"Midisoft Drivers\" from the \r\n\t\"MIDI Interface\" dialog box.\r\n8) A little hint about changing a note's pitch: Use the SHARP and FLAT\r\n\ttools (in the note palette) to click on a note and change by\r\n\ta half-step. This can be used repeatedly to change a pitch as\r\n\tfar as you desire.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nABOUT THE DEMO SONGS\r\n\r\nIn addition to publishing music sequencing and notation programs like \r\nStudio for Windows and Recording Session for Windows, Midisoft also publishes \r\nMIDI data and music education software from which the following demo songs \r\nhave been taken. Among these products are:\r\n\r\nThe Midisoft Multimedia Music Library--A collection of original MIDI music \r\nfor use in multimedia presentations.\r\n\r\nA World of Music--15 volumes of MIDI sequences of all types ranging from \r\nclassical to jazz to pop.\r\n\r\nMusic Mentor--A music enterntainment and education program that combines text \r\nand graphics with simple animation and MIDI-generated sound to make learning \r\nabout music fun.\r\n\r\n\r\nHow the Songs Are Set Up\r\n\r\nThese songs were created on Roland SC-55 Sound Canvas sound modules. They \r\nconform to the new General MIDI standard for MIDI sequence publication. Each \r\nsong file includes setup information at the beginning of each track that \r\nspecifies patch, volume, pan, reverb, and chorus settings for each instrument. \r\nThese files will, of course, sound their best on a Sound Canvas or another \r\nRoland GS MIDI device, but they should work just fine on any equipment that \r\nuses the General MIDI patch assignments. That includes many new products by \r\nYamaha, Korg, and other companies, as well as most internal sound cards like \r\nAd Lib, Sound Blaster, and Pro AudioSpectrum.\r\n\r\n\r\nA_BRIDGE.MID\r\nThis is an excerpt from a piece called \"A Bridge to Cross\" composed\r\nby Tracy Hurst for the Midisoft Multimedia Music Library.\r\n\r\n\r\nANOTHER1.MID\r\nThis is an excerpt from a piece called \"Dance Party\" composed by Tracy Hurst \r\nfor the Midisoft Multimedia Music Library.\r\n\r\n\r\nARABESQ.MID\r\nThis is an excerpt from the 1st Arabesque by Claude Debussy performed here \r\nby George Litterst.
