Please read all the sections before you proceed with the\r\ninstallation.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis file contains the following sections:\r\n\r\n 1. Software Installation\r\n 2. Hardware Configuration\r\n 3. Hardware Installation of Wave Blaster\r\n 4. Sound Blaster 16 Mixer Control\r\n 5. Creative Soundo'LE\r\n 6. Voice Utilities\r\n 7. Sound Drivers Installation Utility (INSTDRV.EXE)\r\n 8. Maximum Recording Rates For Sound Blaster 16\r\n 9. Creative Compact Disc Player\r\n 10. Advanced Signal Processor\r\n 11. Using Windows QSound Control Panel\r\n 12. Manual Errata\r\n 13. Acknowledgement\r\n\r\n\r\n1. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION\r\n\r\n The installation program, INSTALL.EXE will modify your\r\n AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. Your original files will be\r\n renamed with the extension B~K.\r\n\r\n WINSETUP will NOT set up the drivers and applications properly if\r\n your BLASTER environment strings are incorrectly set. Please make\r\n sure that these environment strings are set properly before\r\n running WINSETUP.EXE. You may enter \"SET\" at the DOS prompt to\r\n check the environment settings. Refer to your Sound Blaster\r\n manual for more details on the BLASTER and SOUND environment\r\n strings.\r\n\r\n Normally, WINSETUP.EXE needs to be run only once. If the hardware \r\n settings of your sound card needs to be changed, use the DRIVER\r\n applet in CONTROL PANEL to change the settings of your Windows\r\n drivers. Refer to your Windows manual for more details on the\r\n DRIVER applet.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. HARDWARE CONFIGURATION\r\n\r\n Run SBCONFIG.EXE to configure your card if you change the default\r\n DMA channels 1 and 5, or interrupt 5. To avoid conflicts with\r\n Adaptec 1542 card change DMA 5 to 6 or 7.\r\n\r\n Remember to REBOOT your system\r\n\r\n\r\n3. HARDWARE INSTALLATION OF WAVE BLASTER\r\n\r\n If you want to installing a Wave Blaster, make sure that you \r\n connect your CD-ROM drive to the Sound Blaster 16 Multi-CD \r\n Interface Card using the CD-ROM data cable first. You can then \r\n proceed to install Wave Blaster.\r\n\r\n\r\n4. SOUND BLASTER 16 MIXER CONTROL\r\n\r\n SB16MIX.EXE\r\n -----------\r\n\r\n This mixer can only be accessed when you are in video mode 3 (text\r\n mode - 80x25 lines in 16 colors) or 4 (graphic mode - 40x25 lines\r\n in 4 colors). If you are using any other video mode, a single\r\n line version of the mixer will appear. No mixer control is\r\n available if you select a video mode above 13h (Enhanced video\r\n mode).\r\n\r\n5. CREATIVE SOUNDO'LE\r\n\r\n Creative Soundo'LE uses the hard disk as the working space.\r\n Recording and playback are done directly to your hard disk.\r\n\r\n Creative Soundo'LE also supports compressed wave files. You may\r\n record or play compressed wave files using Soundo'LE. The\r\n graphical Signal Indicator will not be updated when you use\r\n compressed files.\r\n\r\n\r\n6. VOICE UTILITIES\r\n\r\n Below is a list of the limitations and capabilities of the\r\n following utilities :\r\n\r\n WAV2VOC .EXE - Able to support ALAW, uLAW and ADPCM\r\n compressed files.\r\n\r\n VOC2WAV .EXE - Does not support 16-bit compressed files.\r\n\r\n VOCN2O .EXE - Does not support 16-bit compressed files.\r\n\r\n\r\n7. SOUND DRIVERS INSTALLATION UTILITY (INSTDRV.EXE)\r\n\r\n The program INSTDRV.EXE will not change the default DMA and IRQ\r\n settings of the CTWMEM.DRV and CTWDSK.DRV drivers. Current\r\n applications using these two drivers obtain the card's settings\r\n from the BLASTER environment string.\r\n\r\n8. MAXIMUM RECORDING RATES FOR SOUND BLASTER 16\r\n\r\n The sampling rate used for recording is largely influenced by your\r\n computer's main processor. The following maximum recording rates\r\n are suggested when you use 16-bit digital audio under Windows:\r\n\r\n ╔═══════════════════════╤══════════════════════╗\r\n ║ SYSTEM │ RECORDING RATE ║\r\n ╠═══════════════════════╪══════════════════════╣\r\n ║ │ ║\r\n ║ 386 and above │ Stereo - 44KHz ║\r\n ║ │ Mono - 44KHz ║\r\n ║ │ ║\r\n ╟───────────────────────┼──────────────────────╢\r\n ║ │ ║\r\n ║ 386 SX and below │ Stereo - 22KHz ║\r\n ║ │ Mono - 44KHz ║\r\n ║ │ ║\r\n ╚═══════════════════════╧══════════════════════╝\r\n\r\n For optimal performance under Windows, configure your audio card\r\n for 16-bit DMA (Direct Memory Access). Refer to your Sound\r\n Blaster 16 Getting Started Manual for more information on setting\r\n up the audio card to use a 16-bit DMA channel.\r\n\r\n\r\n9. CREATIVE COMPACT DISC PLAYER\r\n\r\n Double click the \"QCD readme\" icon in the Sound Blaster 16 group\r\n windows for more informations.\r\n \r\n\r\n10. ADVANCED SIGNAL PROCESSOR\r\n\r\n For users with Advanced Signal Processor, the Advanced Signal\r\n Processor files (*.CSP) MUST be located in the Sound Blaster 16 \r\n CSP sub directory (example C:\\SB16\\CSP) when you use any \r\n compression technology.\r\n\r\n\r\n11. USING WINDOWS QSOUND CONTROL PANEL\r\n\r\n The QSound effect cannot be enabled or disabled during a wave\r\n playback. The enabling or disabling of QSound effect will only\r\n affect the next wave playback.\r\n\r\n The QSound Control window works in low priority mode. When an\r\n application like Creative Mosaic uses QSound, the control panel\r\n becomes inactive. When you quit the application that uses QSound,\r\n the Control window will become active again.\r\n\r\n * Note : QSound application program is only available on Sound\r\n Blaster 16 with Advanced Signal Processor.\r\n\r\n12. MANUAL ERRATA\r\n \r\n Technical Support for Creative Labs\r\n The ZIP Code has been changed from 74973 to 74075.\r\n The BBS number has been change from 408-428-6660 to \r\n 405-742-6660.\r\n\r\n13.
