ABOUT SUPPORT FOR THAT VERSION OF DOS. \r\n \r\n * You should remove Diskette Booting prior to changing DOS \r\n versions on a PC that already has Watchdog installed.\r\n\r\n\r\n\f Page 2\r\n\r\nUPGRADING TO DOS 5.0\r\n\t\r\n\t If you plan to upgrade your machine to MS-DOS 5.0:\r\n - upgrade the machine to Watchdog 7.0.1, \r\n - remove diskette booting, \r\n\t - boot to A: \r\n - and run the DOS SETUP from there. \r\n\t When you reboot on C: after SETUP, run the SA program and \r\n restrict diskette booting again.\r\n\r\n\r\nUPGRADING PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF WATCHDOG\r\n\r\n Watchdog 7.0.1 will not upgrade or replace Watchdog versions\r\n prior to 5.x. If you have a Watchdog version prior to 5.x, \r\n first deinstall that version, then install Watchdog 7.0.1.\r\n\r\n\r\nNEW VERSION OF WATCHDOG ARMOR INCLUDED\r\n\r\n Due to changes in handling configuration environments such as \r\n colors and menu titles, Watchdog Armor has been upgraded. The code \r\n loaded on the Armor Card is still current, but if you have a old \r\n copy of WDARMOR.EXE and WDARMOR.HLP you should replace it with the \r\n version on the Supplemental Disk. The easiest way is to copy the \r\n contents of the Armor diskette into the System Administration \r\n directory and then copy the two files from the Supplemental Disk \r\n into SYSADM on top of the old versions. You can then run WDARMOR \r\n from the System Administration Area on the hard disk instead of \r\n from the diskette.\r\n\r\n\r\nSECURITY CHECKS ON BOOT PROCESS\r\n\r\n\t Watchdog version 7.0.1 provides additional checks on the \r\n\t boot process. If you subsequently upgrade your version\r\n\t of DOS, you could get a warning message about the boot\r\n\t process. To correct this situation, run replace to update\r\n\t the Watchdog files and security checks on the boot process.\r\n\r\n\t If you should get this warning message, and you have NOT\r\n\t upgraded your DOS version, call Watchdog Technical Support.\r\n\r\n\r\nBACKING UP SECURITY FILES\r\n\r\n The Watchdog System Administration (SA) files contain all the \r\n information pertaining to your PC's security environment. Once you \r\n have installed the product, you should log onto Watchdog, run WDSA \r\n (either from the System Administration Area that was created, or \r\n from the SA diskette), and backup your SA files. This is very \r\n important and will provide you with an additional layer of \r\n protection against hard disk failures. ANY CHANGES TO WATCHDOG \r\n SECURITY INFORMATION, INCLUDING RANDOM ENCRYPTION KEYS, COULD BE \r\n LOST IF BACKUPS ARE NOT MADE.\r\n\r\n\r\n\f Page 3\r\n\r\nCONTROL DISKETTE BOOTING BACKUPS\r\n\r\n Control Diskette Booting processing now requires a backup step. You \r\n will use this backup if the hard disk ever has a hard failure that \r\n prevents Watchdog's normal error recovery process from accessing \r\n information on the hard disk while Diskette Booting is restricted. \r\n When restricting Diskette Booting, it is important that you make \r\n and keep this backup in a safe place. \r\n\r\n\r\nINSTALLING WATCHDOG ON HARD DISKS OTHER THAN C:\r\n\r\n Watchdog program and data files may be installed to any hard disk \r\n on the PC. Hard disks containing Watchdog must, however, be \r\n accessible when CONFIG.SYS is referenced during the boot process. \r\n If a disk is defined to the PC later in the AUTOEXEC.BAT (by \r\n ASGNPART for example) or when a network program is first run, then \r\n Watchdog files referenced in CONFIG.SYS will not be available when \r\n CONFIG.SYS is processed.\r\n \r\n If you install Watchdog on a disk other than drive C:, make sure \r\n that drive is available to CONFIG.SYS during the boot process.\r\n\r\n\r\nTRANSPARENT INTERFACE\r\n\r\n If you are upgrading or replacing a previous Watchdog version,\r\n Watchdog will not automatically activate the transparent interface.\r\n You must manually activate the transparent interface by enabling\r\n the System Permission \"Automatically Add All Areas at Login\".\r\n\r\n\r\nNETWORK SINGLE SIGN-ON\r\n\r\n On a new install, Watchdog automatically copies WDNET.* files to\r\n \\SYSLIB. If you are upgrading or replacing a previous Watchdog\r\n version, you must manually copy the appropriate WDNET file to \\SYSLIB.\r\n If you are using Novell, copy WDNET.NOV to \\SYSLIB\\WDNET.BAT. If\r\n you are using OS\\2 Lan Manager, copy WDNET.MAN to \\SYSLIB\\WDNET.BAT.\r\n\r\n You will need to customize the WDNET.BAT file to automatically log\r\n users onto your server, pass Watchdog user IDs and passwords, and\r\n synchronize the network to Watchdog whenever a password changes.\r\n Refer to your Watchdog Setup Guide for complete instructions on\r\n network setup.\r\n \r\n\r\nNETWORK ENCRYPTION\r\n\r\n When you setup a network directory as a new Watchdog area, make sure\r\n that directory does not already contain data.\r\n\r\n Before you copy data into the network area, make sure you are logged\r\n into the network area. If you are using Novell, make sure you also\r\n load WDEMUL /NET. \r\n\r\n If you want to unprotect a network area, be sure to log into the area\r\n and copy any data it contains to an external directory, before you \r\n unprotect the network area.\r\n\f Page 4\r\n\r\nWATCHDOG KEYLOCK AND SCREENSAVERS\r\n\r\n If Watchdog Keylock conflicts with an existing screensaver, turn off\r\n the screensaver and use the Watchdog Keylock to blank your screen and\r\n lock the keyboard.\r\n\r\n\r\nSUPER USER MODE\r\n\r\n A Super User has unrestricted access to the entire hard disk and can\r\n delete any file or directory, reformat the hard disk, or run any DOS\r\n command. We recommend the SA assign only himself or herself as a\r\n Super User, under a separate user ID.\r\n\r\n If you login as a Super User and get a warning that Watchdog cannot\r\n add all areas, do the following:\r\n - run the SA program and at the Change System Configuration menu,\r\n - select F5 (Change Encryption Key Memory Usage).\r\n - Select F3 (Auto), or Select F2 (Set) and enter a higher number.\r\n For most situations, AUTO is the correct choice.\r\n\r\n * Don't write to any encrypted areas that Watchdog was unable to add.\r\n\r\n\r\nWDRIGHTS\r\n\r\n WDRIGHTS is a utility command that displays permission rights for the\r\n current user. You can specify any legal path after the WDRIGHTS\r\n command and Watchdog will show you the access permissions for the\r\n specified directories (Execute, Read, Write, Create/Delete).\r\n\u001a"
