The files are not usable until they are expanded.\r\nSetup expands the compressed files as they are copied onto your\r\nhard disk.\r\n\r\nIf you need to copy files directly from a Carbon Copy for Windows\r\ndisk without using Setup, follow these steps:\r\n\r\n 1. Copy EXPAND.EXE (located in the \\INSTALL directory) from the\r\n Carbon Copy Setup Disk onto your hard drive. (This utility\r\n expands compressed files to a useable format.)\r\n\r\n 2. Insert the disk with the file you want to expand into drive\r\n A: (or any floppy-disk drive).\r\n\r\n 3. Type the following and press ENTER:\r\n\r\n EXPAND /R x: y:\r\n\r\n where x: is the disk drive you are copying from (source) \r\n y: is the disk drive you are copying to (destination)\r\n\r\n The compressed file is expanded as it is copied onto your\r\n hard-disk drive.\r\n\r\n\r\nINFORMATION NOT FOUND IN THE USER GUIDE\r\n=======================================\r\n\r\nUsing Carbon Copy with Novell NetWare\r\n-------------------------------------\r\n The following versions of Novell NetWare components \r\n are recommended for proper operation when using the\r\n Carbon Copy LAN (IPX) driver:\r\n\r\n Windows Components\r\n ------------------\r\n NETWARE.DRV: v2.02 (021026)\r\n NWIPXSPX.DLL: v1.32\r\n NWPOPUP.EXE: v2.02 (021027)\r\n VIPX.386: v1.13 (920903)\r\n VNETWARE.386: v1.06 (921015)\r\n\r\n DOS Components\r\n --------------\r\n EMSNETX.EXE: v3.31 (921112) \r\n IPXODI.COM: v2.00 (920904)\r\n LSL.COM: v2.00 (920904)\r\n NETX.EXE: v3.31 (921112) \r\n TBMI2.COM: v2.10 (911204)\r\n XMSNETX.EXE: v3.31 (921112) \r\n\r\n It is especially important to update to Novell's\r\n VIPX.386 version 1.13 or later. The version that\r\n ships with Windows 3.1 will not work properly.\r\n\r\n These files are available on CompuServe in the Novell\r\n forum as WINUP7.ZIP and DOSUP6.ZIP.\r\n\r\n\r\nUsing Carbon Copy with 3COM 3C505 LAN Adapter Cards\r\n---------------------------------------------------\r\n The 3COM 3C505 LAN Adapter card does not work properly\r\n with Microsoft Windows in enhanced mode. 3COM is working\r\n on new drivers that will correct this problem. Contact\r\n 3COM technical support at (800) 876-3266 for more\r\n information.\r\n\r\n\r\nDisabling the Host Video on 256-color Cards\r\n-------------------------------------------\r\n Carbon Copy may not be able to disable the video on\r\n some 256-color cards. Changing to a 16-color driver\r\n will usually correct this.\r\n\r\n\r\nDisplay Drivers\r\n---------------\r\n The Windows display drivers not directly supported by Carbon\r\n Copy for Windows include the following:\r\n\r\n Olivetti/AT&T monochrome or PVC display\r\n Quad VGA\r\n 82c441 VGA\r\n\r\n\r\nDiamond Steath VRAM 1280 16-color Mode\r\n--------------------------------------\r\n The Diamond Stealth card will not work with Carbon Copy\r\n in this mode, but it will work with other modes such as\r\n 1024x768 16 or 256-color modes.\r\n\r\n\r\nXGA 16-color, HP 16-color SVGA\r\n------------------------------\r\n These cards do not work with Carbon Copy in 16-color\r\n mode using their native drivers. However, they will\r\n work fine using the Windows standard VGA driver. The\r\n XGA and HP cards also work correctly with native\r\n drivers using any of their 256-color modes.\r\n\r\n\r\nATI Ultra \"Crystal Font\" Driver\r\n-------------------------------\r\n The ATI Ultra \"Crystal Font\" driver does not work properly\r\n with Carbon Copy, however, all other ATI Ultra drivers work\r\n fine, including 1024x768 and 256-color drivers. If you are\r\n using this driver, you should use the Windows Setup program\r\n to select another Ultra driver, and then reinstall Carbon\r\n Copy.\r\n\r\n\r\nUsing Alt+Tab to Switch Windows during Remote Control\r\n-----------------------------------------------------\r\n Using Alt+Tab to select a active window from a full-\r\n screen DOS session in remote control will not display\r\n the selected banner on the Guest machine. However,\r\n the switch still occurs properly, and the new\r\n application will be displayed as soon as the keys are\r\n released.\r\n\r\n\r\nUsing Windows 386 Enhanced Mode \"Exclusive in Foreground\" Option\r\n----------------------------------------------------------------\r\n Setting this option in a PIF file will interfere with\r\n Carbon Copy's ability to remote control the application.\r\n Do not set this option for applications you wish to remote\r\n control.\r\n\r\n\r\nNetwork Warning Messages During Windows Startup\r\n-----------------------------------------------\r\n Carbon Copy is not able to display Network Warning messages\r\n during Windows startup. In order to prevent problems with\r\n remote control, we recommend disabling these messages using\r\n the Network option in Windows Control Panel. If these\r\n messages are not disabled, you will not be able to view\r\n the Host screen until the dialog box is removed. However,\r\n the keyboard is still active and pressing will\r\n remove the warning message.\r\n\r\n\r\n\"Host is in an unsupported video mode\" Message\r\n----------------------------------------------\r\n Depending on the Host and Guest video hardware, if you\r\n switch from full screen DOS from the Guest while in Remote\r\n Control, you may get the message \"Host is in an unsupported\r\n video mode\". This occurs only when Windows is running in\r\n a Super-VGA mode. The message will disappear as soon as\r\n the switch to Windows is complete, and does not indicate a \r\n problem.\r\n\r\n\r\nUsing Window's Standard Mode with the LAN (IPX) Driver\r\n------------------------------------------------------\r\n The TBMI2.COM (TBMI.COM for Windows 3.0a) utility must\r\n be loaded before Windows can be run in standard mode\r\n using the network. If you get a \"Communication driver\r\n is not installed.\" message, make sure that this utility\r\n is loaded before you start Windows.\r\n\r\n DOS version 5.0 is recommended on 80286-based machines if\r\n the LAN (IPX) driver is used for Host operation and DOSHOST\r\n is loaded. The CONFIG.SYS file should contain the line:\r\n\r\n DOS=HIGH\r\n\r\n Other versions of DOS may work if you have a utility such\r\n as QRAM, allowing at least 500K of free memory at the DOS\r\n prompt after loading DOSHOST.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIncreasing Performance on 80286-based PCs\r\n-----------------------------------------\r\n Most 80286-based machines running at 12-MHz or slower will\r\n give better performance if the port speed is set at 9600 baud\r\n or lower. Using port speeds greater than 9600 baud may\r\n actually decrease throughput on these machines due to more\r\n frequent retransmissions.\r\n\r\n If you are running Windows version 3.1, you may use the \r\n FasterModeSwitch=1 option in the [standard] section of \r\n your Windows SYSTEM.INI file. Enabling this setting causes\r\n Windows running in standard mode to use a faster method of\r\n switching from protected to real mode on many 80286-based\r\n computers. When this setting is enabled, Windows responds \r\n quicker to hardware interrupts, screen updates, and improves \r\n file transfer speeds. NOTE: This setting has no effect on\r\n 80386-based computers. Some early IBM AT and compatible \r\n computers do not support this setting. Enabling this setting\r\n on these 80286-based machines may cause them to lock up when \r\n starting Windows.\r\n\r\n\r\nIncreasing Performance on 80386sx-based PCs\r\n-------------------------------------------\r\n For best performance on 80386sx-based machines, we recommend\r\n running Carbon Copy for Windows in standard mode.\r\n\r\n As with all Windows applications, running Carbon Copy on any\r\n PC in standard mode will improve performance over enhanced\r\n mode on the same machine.\r\n\r\n\r\nEnhancing Mouse Performance\r\n---------------------------\r\n When using Carbon Copy for Windows with modems that connect\r\n at 2400 baud, mouse performance can be enhanced by changing\r\n the QuickMouse parameter in CCW.INI as follows:\r\n\r\n QuickMouse=5\r\n\r\n This change must be made directly using a text editor. \r\n (CCW.INI is located in your WINDOWS directory.) The default\r\n setting of QuickMouse=2 is best for modems that connect at\r\n baud rates of 9600 or higher.\r\n\r\n When using modems that have asymmetrical modulation schemes,\r\n the transmit and receive channels may operate at vastly\r\n different speeds. An example of such a modem is the US\r\n Robotics Courier HST. For these modems, you may want to set\r\n QuickMouse as high as 10 for best performance.\r\n\r\n You may also notice better performance by setting QuickMouse\r\n to a higher value on noisy phone lines.\r\n\r\n\r\nDisconnecting with the \"Exit Windows\" Dialog Displayed\r\n------------------------------------------------------\r\n Because of a limitation within Microsoft Windows, you should\r\n not disconnect from a Host machine while the \"Exit Windows\"\r\n dialog is displayed. If you do, you may not be able to\r\n reconnect to the Host system until someone at the host\r\n machine responds to the dialog box.\r\n\r\n\r\nChanging the Communications Options\r\n-----------------------------------\r\n If you change any of the options on the Communications menu\r\n (i.e. change drivers, WorkStation Name, Port, etc.) while\r\n DOSHOST is loaded, you should unload and reload the DOSHOST\r\n program. Some of the options do not take effect in DOSHOST\r\n until this is done.\r\n \r\n\r\nUsing the Virtual Desktop Feature\r\n---------------------------------\r\n The Virtual Desktop feature mentioned in the User Guide\r\n is not available if the Host PC is running Windows 3.0a.\r\n The Host PC must be running Windows 3.1 to use this\r\n feature.\r\n\r\n\r\nRunning Setup with Limited Disk Space\r\n-------------------------------------\r\n Setup requires a minimum of 4Mb of disk space plus 2Mb of\r\n temporary workspace to install the complete Carbon Copy\r\n for Windows product. If your disk space is limited to\r\n less than this amount, and you have a previously installed\r\n version of Carbon Copy for Windows on your hard disk, you\r\n may want to delete it so you have enough space to reinstall\r\n the product.\r\n\r\n\r\nUsing Carbon Copy along with CPU Intensive Applications\r\n-------------------------------------------------------\r\n When using Carbon Copy's File Transfer utility along with\r\n CPU intensive applications (mostly benchmark programs),\r\n File Transfer may sometimes display the message \"General\r\n Failure\". This means that File Transfer is not receiving\r\n enough CPU time to do its work. If this happens, simply\r\n close the application that is causing the problem and try\r\n the transfer again.\r\n\r\n If you have trouble connecting to a machine that is running\r\n this type of program, you may want to try terminating the\r\n application before attempting a connection.\r\n\r\n\r\nChanging the Mouse Settings during Remote Control\r\n-------------------------------------------------\r\n If you change the mouse settings in the Windows Control Panel \r\n during a remote control session, the Guest's mouse may \r\n temporarily be out of synchronization with the Host mouse.\r\n If this happens, simply use the keyboard to choose the OK\r\n button in the Mouse Settings dialog, and the mouse will\r\n return to normal.\r\n\r\n Note that there is very little reason to change the mouse\r\n settings on the Host in this way. Mouse performance is\r\n mostly affected by the Guest's mouse settings.\r\n\r\n\r\nHP Intellifont Drivers\r\n----------------------\r\n The HP Intellifont display driver (IFW.DRV) is incompatible\r\n with Carbon Copy for Windows. You should remove this driver\r\n from your SYSTEM.INI in order to use Carbon Copy. \r\n\r\n\r\nCommunications Port Not Found Message\r\n-------------------------------------\r\n If you get a \"Communications port not found.\" message from\r\n Carbon Copy, you may want to check the \"Custom\" settings in\r\n the Port Settings dialog box to make sure they are correct. \r\n The settings installed by using the \"Default\" pushbutton are\r\n usually correct for most systems.\r\n\r\n\r\nUsing Carbon Copy with Asynchronous Communications Servers (ACS)\r\n================================================================\r\n\r\n See ACS.TXT for application notes regarding the use of\r\n Carbon Copy with NCSI/NASI and EBIOS/INT14-based ACS\r\n products.\r\n\r\n\r\nUSING THE SETCOM UTILITY (USING COM3 OR COM4)\r\n=============================================\r\n\r\n In many systems, Windows will not recognize serial ports\r\n COM3 and COM4.
