  "desc_file": "README.TXT",
  "desc_text": "NEW FEATURES IN PC TOOLS GOLD (V9)\r\n\r\n1. New Central Point Recuperator (CPR)\r\n\r\nCentral Point Recuperator is an all-new utility that \r\nautomatically and periodically saves the state of your PC's CPU \r\nand memory so you can restore the system in case of a crash, \r\nlock up or power failure. If such a crash occurs, you reboot \r\nthe system and, if you desire, CPR will attempt to restore your \r\nsystem (including data files intact) to the same state that \r\noccured when it was last saved. Saves are done on timed \r\nintervals and only during \"idle\" periods to minimize \r\ndisruption to your work.\r\n\r\nSetting up Recuperator\r\n\r\n\r\nSetup Procedure:\r\n\r\n*\tEnter CPRECUPE /SETUP on the DOS command line.\r\nRecuperator Setup asks if you are ready to reboot your machine \r\nso that it can write a configuration file for it. Choose OK to \r\nreboot the machine.\r\n\r\n*\tAfter Recuperator reboots the machine, you see a series\r\nof four dialog boxes that ask for information or provide\r\nprogress information about the installation process.\r\n\r\nSelect Drive\r\nAsks you to choose the drive where you want to store the system \r\nimage files. These files require as much disk space as you have \r\nRAM on your system, including video and LAN card RAM, and 24 KB \r\nof overhead space, plus a maximum of 128 KB for the FAT of each \r\nlocal hard drive and compressed volume.\r\n\r\nEnter Windows Directory\r\nAsks you to enter the name of your Windows directory, if you \r\nhave one. If you have a directory called WINDOWS in your path, \r\nRecuperator Setup assumes that this is your Windows directory.\r\n\r\nCreate Startup Files\r\nAsks if you want to create the configuration file now, or edit \r\nthe configuration choices before you save it. Accept the default \r\nconfiguration unless you know that your system has unique \r\nrequirements. You can tune the configuration later to change \r\nhotkeys and other settings.\r\n\r\nRecuperator Setup adds lines to your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS \r\nfiles so that it is loaded when you boot your system. \r\n\r\nBuilding Files\r\nShows that the configuration file and saved system file is being \r\nbuilt. When the progress thermometer reaches 100%, the dialog \r\nbox disappears automatically.\r\n\r\n*\tThe system reboots. The new AUTOEXEC.BAT loads Recuperator in \r\nmemory so that it can save your system state.\r\n\r\n*\tAs soon as Recuperator loads, press Ctrl+Left Shift+Right \r\nShift to save the system state manually. The manual save \r\ntests the configuration settings.\r\n\r\nNOTES:\r\nRecuperator Setup cannot install Recuperator if you have a \r\nmulti-boot AUTOEXEC.BAT file.\r\n\r\nThe mouse will be disabled during the second part of the setup.\r\n\r\nThe save file cannot be created on a compressed drive.\r\n\r\nRecuperator cannot be run with Disk Manager.\r\n\r\nRecuperator does not work yet on microchannel systems.\r\n\r\nWhen you cancel the setup procedure your system will be restored \r\nto the original state and rebooted.\r\n\r\nIf you change the Recuperator configuration the system must be \r\nrebooted for the changes to take affect.\r\n\r\nYou must run setup again if your system hardware is changed or a \r\nnew disk volume is added.\r\n\r\nIf your system has a Diamond Viper or Hercules Graphite video \r\ncard you will need to change the Primary Video Type in Advanced \r\nConfiguration to VGA.\r\n\r\nIf your system has a bus mouse it will not be automatically \r\ndetected. You must set the Mouse Type in Advanced Configuation.\r\n\r\nTo turn off automatic saves, You can press ALT-LEFT_SHIFT-\r\nRIGHT_SHIFT. You will hear the pc beep three times indicating \r\nRecuperator has been disabled. To reenable, press the same key \r\nsequence. The pc will beep twice indicating Recuperator is on.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Supports Stacker & DoubleSpace Drives, Large Volumes\r\n\r\nOptimizer (formerly Compress), DiskFix and Backup now support \r\nStacker and DoubleSpace compressed drives. DiskFix can analyze \r\nand repair these volumes, in addition to doing a decompression \r\non DoubleSpace to check for compression errors. Optimizer and \r\nDiskFix now support drives up to 2 gigabytes.\r\n\r\n3. New Central Point Anti-Virus Technology (CPAV)\r\n\r\nPC Tools now features the same advanced AV technology that is in \r\nCPAV 2.0. A new Virus Analyzer uses an expert system to detect \r\nunknown viruses in files and boot sectors without requiring any \r\nprior infection information. CPAV also now uses SmartChecks to \r\ndetect and clean unknown viruses without updated virus \r\nsignatures. In addition, signature file updates contain more \r\ninformation about file, boot sector, and memory viruses and are \r\nnow used by BOOTSAFE, CPAV.EXE and VSAFE. CPAV can now scan \r\nfiles compressed by both self-extracting and generic compression \r\nprograms, including PKZIP, PKLITE, LZEXE and ARJ. Scans are up \r\nto 15X faster and TSR memory requirements have been reduced.\r\n \r\n4. New Integrated Hardware Diagnostics (SI PRO)\r\n\r\nSystem Information Professional provides extensive information \r\nand diagnostic testing for your pc such as CPU, video, memory, \r\nCMOS, hard and floppy disk tests, sound card, and many others.\r\n\r\n5. New High-Speed Floppy Duplicator with Media \r\nConversion\r\n\r\nFastCopy quickly makes multiple copies of floppy disks. You can \r\nalso use FastCopy to save an image of a floppy disk on a hard \r\ndisk, allowing you to quickly create copies of the disk later. \r\nMedia conversions are also featured, which let you copy disks \r\nfrom one format to another ( provided the destination size disk \r\nis smaller than the source ).\r\n\r\n6. Task Switcher Improvements\r\n\r\nTask Switcher now launches scheduled events (formerly handled by \r\nCPSCHED) and allows you to specify a program to run during \r\ncomputer idle time. It will also now save high resolution video \r\nscreens running in VESA mode.\r\n\r\n7. DataMon Requires Less RAM\r\n\r\nDATAMON has been reduced in TSR memory size. The Disk Light \r\nfeature has been removed from DATAMON and placed into another \r\nprogram, DSKLIGHT.EXE. Undelete now provides delete-protection \r\nconfiguration."
