If HIMEM.SYS is in the root \r\ndirectory of your C: drive, the line should read:\r\n\r\n\tDEVICE=C:\\HIMEM.SYS /M:PS2\r\n\r\nThis will allow your IBM PS/2 to run Windows 3.0 reliably.\r\n\r\n\r\nPop-Up Verifier Input Limitations\r\n\r\nThe maximum input line length in the Pop-Up Verifier is 339 characters\r\nincluding spaces and region breaks. The number of pop-ups per page is limited\r\nto 200. If you have a problem with input line length, try zoning out the page\r\nin question column by column. If you get more than 200 pop-ups, try adjusting\r\nthe brightness control in the Setup Window.\r\n\r\n\r\n\"Out of Memory\" Errors\r\n\r\nWordScan Plus will run very reliably in a true 2 Mb machine. If you are\r\nrunning on a network, have allocated extra environment space, or have TSR\r\nprograms like Sidekick running on your machine, WordScan Plus ends up with\r\nless than 2 Mb to work with. For many pages WordScan Plus may still run fine.\r\nFor very difficult pages, WordScan Plus may run out of memory and produce this\r\nmessage. If you are getting this message on just regular pages, make sure\r\nthat you aren't using up a lot of memory for other purposes. If you have a\r\n386 machine, you can solve this problem simply by running Windows in enhanced\r\nmode.\r\n\r\n\r\n\"Out of Disk Space\" Errors\r\n\r\nWordScan Plus needs enough free disk space to work properly. Make sure you\r\nhave enough free disk space to save files, etc. If you have less than 500K\r\nbytes free on your hard disk, WordScan Plus may not be able to operate\r\nproperly.\r\n\r\n\r\nReordering Zones\r\n\r\nTo reorder zones in the Preview window, move the mouse to the zone to be\r\nreordered, hold down the left mouse button, and drag the mouse to the zone\r\nthat should come after the zone you are reordering. When you release the\r\nmouse button the zones will reorder themselves.\r\n\r\n\r\nFile Overwrite Protection\r\n\r\nPotentially thousands of files can be created by saving a large document with\r\nmultiple image zones. Because of this, checking to see whether any of these\r\nfiles could potentially overwrite a portion of a previously saved document\r\nwould take too much time. Instead, we have adopted a far faster method\r\nthat may warn you of an overwrite situation when no danger of overwrite\r\nexists. For example, it will warn you if you try to save the document \"foo\"\r\nand have a previously saved document named \"foob.\"\r\n\r\n\r\nPage Size Limitations\r\n\r\nThe maximum page size for WordScan Plus is 4096 by 4096 pixels. On regular\r\npages at regular resolutions you will never run into this limitation. At 400\r\ndpi (dots per inch), the page is limited to 8.5\" by 10.24\". At 600 dpi, the\r\npage is limited to 6.8\" on a side.\r\n\r\n\r\nRecognizing Dithered Images\r\n\r\nAlthough we have tried to protect against this, it is fairly easy for you to\r\ntry to recognize text on a page that has been scanned with a dither pattern\r\nset. Normally dithered images have very poor recognition.\r\n\r\n\r\nExcel, Lotus, and Quattro (.WK1) Output Limitations\r\n\r\nOutput to these spreadsheets is limited to 8192 lines, 255 columns,\r\n65546 cells, and 240 characters per cell (essentially characters per line).\r\nFiles that exceed these limits will result in the error message \"Conversion\r\ndocument too large for target.\"\r\n\r\n\r\nMultimate Output Limitations\r\n\r\nOutput to Multimate is limited to 128K bytes total file size and 256\r\npages. Files that exceed these limits will result in the error message\r\n\"Conversion document too large for target.\"\r\n\r\n\r\n\"Numeric Tabs\" Limitations\r\n\r\nSelecting \"Numeric Tabs\" in the Style Sheet will cause WordScan Plus to align\r\ntables of numbers in columns with the decimal point aligned down the column\r\nprovided the decimals are aligned on the original document and the numbers\r\nare contained in a table with at least three columns.\r\n\r\n\r\nDest 3000 Scanners with Auto Document Feeders\r\n\r\nIf you lift the cover of a Dest 3000 scanner with an auto document feeder\r\nwhile a page is feeding, the scanner will lock up. You will have to turn the\r\nscanner off and then back on again then reboot your system (Ctrl-Alt-Del) to\r\nclear this condition.\r\n\r\n\r\nMicrotek Scanner Addressing on the IBM PS/2\r\n\r\nThe Microtek scanner for the PS/2 uses the MS-MCY board. This board uses a\r\nfixed I/O address which may conflict with the mouse without this conflict\r\nshowing up when you configure your system with your reference diskette. The\r\nMS-MCY board has two revisions. The REV-A board uses I/O addresses 400-40f\r\nhexidecimal. The REV-B board uses I/O addresses 500-50f hexidecimal. If a\r\nconflict exists, you can avoid problems by not moving the mouse while the\r\nscanner is scanning.\r\n\r\n\r\nEarly HP ScanJet Scanners with Auto Document Feeders\r\n\r\nIf you lift the auto document feeder of an early model HP ScanJet scanner\r\nwhile the document is prefeeding (just as it is going into the feeder), the\r\nscanner may lock up. You will have to turn the scanner off and then back on\r\nagain to clear this condition.\r\n\r\n\r\nA Final Word\r\n\r\nAll of us at Calera have taken extreme care to insure the quality of this\r\nproduct. If you are reading this file because you are having a problem with\r\nWordScan Plus and you haven't found the solution here, here are a few\r\nadditional ideas that may help you solve your problem:\r\n\r\n * Consult the \"Troubleshooting\" section of the User Guide.\r\n \r\n * If WordScan Plus used to work but isn't working now, think carefully\r\n about the things you changed between the time you know it worked and now.\r\n Did you install new software or hardware, alter your CONFIG.SYS file,\r\n or get installed on a network? Could any of these things have affected\r\n WordScan Plus? It wouldn't hurt to reinstall WordScan Plus at this point\r\n to make sure you haven't accidentaly erased part of it.\r\n \r\n * If you are installing WordScan Plus for the first time and you can't get\r\n it to work, try running the Technical Assistant. Make sure your scanner\r\n is working by testing it with the manufacturer's software. Most\r\n manufacturers include software with their scanner that you can use to\r\n test it and see if it's working right.\r\n \r\n * If you've run the Technical Assistant, been through the User's Guide (and\r\n Scanner Installation Guide if it's a scanner problem), been through\r\n this file, and are at the end of your rope, give us a call.
