See \"Windows Vector fonts\" below.\r\n\t\r\n-----------------------------------------------------------\r\nGENERAL HINTS AND TIPS\r\n\r\n>>\t\"Times\" vs. \"Tms Rmn\" \r\nBoth Times and Tms Rmn appear in your applications' font menus when \r\nATM is on. While ATM automatically substitutes Times whenever it \r\nsees Tms Rmn (for backward compatibility with existing documents), \r\nitis more reliable to select Times instead. The same is true for \r\nHelvetica vs. Helv.\r\n\r\n>>\tMaximum number of fonts\r\nATM 1.15 can install a maximum of 1500 fonts. However, Windows \r\napparently limits the number of PostScript soft font entries in \r\nyour WIN.INI file to approximately 175. If you get spurious \r\nprinter error messages when starting your application or switching \r\nto a PostScript printer, you may have reached this limit. Turn off \r\nATM and restart Windows. If the condition still persists, you must \r\nmanually remove these entries from your WIN.INI file.\r\n\r\n>>\tWindows vector fonts\r\nATM will substitute its scalable Times and Helvetica for Windows' \r\nRoman and Modern, respectively, in order to eliminate the \"stick-\r\nfigure\" appearance of these fonts. If you don't want ATM to make \r\nthis substitution, delete the following two lines from the \r\n[Aliases] section of your ATM.INI file:\r\n\tRoman=Times\r\n\tModern=Helvetica\r\n\r\n>>\tPostScript printer font downloading\r\nThe Add font option in the ATM Control Panel adds the selected \r\nfonts to every PostScript printer in WIN.INI as manually downloaded \r\nfonts. This configuration minimizes printing time since fonts will \r\nnot be downloaded by Windows every time there is a font change in \r\nyour document; however, the desired fonts must be resident in the \r\nprinter (either in memory or on the printer's hard disk) before printing. \r\nYou can reconfigure a manually downloaded font as an automatically \r\ndownloaded font by modifying its entry in the PostScript section of \r\nWIN.INI. See the documentation provided with your font package for \r\nmore information.\r\n\r\n>>\tRe-installing or installing a new version of ATM\r\nIf you already have a version of ATM installed on your system, \r\nturn it off using the ATM Control Panel and restart Windows before \r\nrunning the ATM Installer.\r\n\r\n------------------------------------------------------------\r\nTROUBLESHOOTING\r\n\r\nProblem: ATM displays the message \"ATM fonts and PostScript printer \r\nfonts don't match on xxx.\"\r\n\r\nSolution: \"xxx\" is the name of the first font that does not match. \r\nThis message appears if your PostScript printer is not \"active\" or if \r\nyou have changed printer ports since installing fonts through the ATM \r\nControl Panel. To reactivate your printer, you must use the Printers \r\noption in the Windows Control Panel; selecting the printer from your \r\napplication's Printer Setup menu alone is not enough. If you have \r\nchanged printer ports, you must add the fonts again through the ATM \r\nControl Panel.\r\n\r\n\r\nProblem: Justified text sometimes extends beyond the right margin \r\non screen.\r\n\r\nSolution: Turn off the \"Use pre-built or resident bitmap fonts\" \r\noption in the ATM Control Panel. \r\n\r\n\r\nProblem: Italic or script fonts are sometimes clipped at the end \r\nof a line or at the current cursor position.\r\n\r\nSolution: This is a limitation of Windows and affects only screen \r\ndisplay of text. The text will print correctly with ATM.\r\n\r\n\r\nProblem: Some colors of text print incorrectly on an HP PaintJet.\r\n\r\nSolution: Version 1.0 of the HP PaintJet driver and version 1.0 \r\nof Zenographics' SuperPrint do not correctly support color printing \r\nwith ATM. Version 1.1 of SuperPrint and version 1.01 of the HP \r\ndriver correct this problem.\r\n\r\n\r\nProblem: Ventura Publisher v3.0 displays a \"Divide by zero\" error \r\nmessage.\r\n\r\nSolution: This is due to the way Ventura Publisher manages font \r\ninformation. Exit Ventura Publisher, remove some fonts using the \r\nATM Control Panel and restart Windows. Contact Ventura for the \r\n\"11/90 patch\" disk at (800) 822-8221.\r\n\r\n\r\nProblem: Selecting text in Ami Professional 1.2 seems sluggish.\r\n\r\nSolution: Turn off the Pair Kerning option in Ami's Defaults menu \r\nuntil you are ready to print. The sluggishness also occurs without \r\nATM when using printers that support automatic kerning (such as \r\nPostScript printers). The sluggishness is due to Ami's extra \r\noverhead in performing its kerning calculations. Since ATM provides \r\nautomatic kerning capabilities for all Windows-supported printers, \r\nthis suggestion also applies to non-PostScript printers.\r\n\r\n\r\nProblem: Courier text is clipped at sizes smaller than 9 point on \r\nscreen and on printed output.\r\n\r\nSolution: In order to avoid problems with applications that do \r\nnot handle Courier correctly, ATM must return a fixed-size screen \r\nbitmapped font for small sizes. You can change this by deleting \r\nthe following line from the [Aliases] section of your ATM.INI file:\r\n\tCourier=Courier\r\nATM will then provide the exact (unclipped) size of Courier requested \r\nby your applications. Note that some applications don't expect to \r\nreceive the size they requested. For example, the numbers in the \r\nruler of AmiPro 1.2 will be displayed in 1 point type." }
