Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration\r\nwhile others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With\r\nregistration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the\r\nsoftware to an updated program and a printed manual.\r\n\r\nCopyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the\r\ncopyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated\r\nbelow. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail\r\nauthors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are\r\ngood programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of\r\ndistribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute\r\nthe software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,\r\nsome authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may\r\ncopy their Shareware.\r\n\r\nShareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find\r\nsoftware that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or\r\nShareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you\r\ncan try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower\r\nalso. You cannot just copy the\r\n  files from the Paint Shop Pro disk to your hard disk. The files on the\r\n  distribution disk are packed in a special way to save space. The setup\r\n  program unpacks those files and builds them on your working disk.\r\n\r\n  1. Make Windows' \"Program Manager\" the active window.\r\n\r\n  2. From Windows' \"Program Manager\", select \"File\", then select \"Run\".  This\r\n     will open the \"Run\" dialog box.\r\n\r\n  3. Place the copy of Paint Shop Pro in your floppy drive.\r\n     Now, the dialog box needs for you to type in the command that will run\r\n     the Paint Shop Pro installation program.\r\n\r\n     * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive \"A\", type:\r\n              A:SETUP\r\n       Leave the \"Run Minimized\" box un-selected, and click the \"OK\" command\r\n       button.\r\n\r\n     * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive \"B\", type:\r\n              B:SETUP\r\n       Leave the \"Run Minimized\" box un-selected, and click the \"OK\" command\r\n       button.\r\n\r\n  4. Fill in the required information in the dialog box.\r\n\r\n     * It will ask you for the \"Source Drive and Directory\" designation where\r\n       your Paint Shop Pro floppy disk is located.  (This is the same floppy\r\n       drive designation you typed in the previous step before the word\r\n       \"setup\".)\r\n\r\n     * It will ask you for the hard disk \"Destination Drive and Directory\"\r\n       designation on which you want it to install Paint Shop Pro.  It will\r\n       suggest a directory named \"C:\\PSP\".\r\n\r\n       If you want the Paint Shop Pro program files installed on a different\r\n       drive or directory, just click the pointer to the right of the\r\n       characters you want to change, backspace over the ones you want to\r\n       erase, then type in the new designation.\r\n\r\n     * It will automatically build a Paint Shop Pro icon and add it to\r\n       \"Program Manager\".  Accept the \"Yes\" (already selected by default) if\r\n       you do want it to do this.  Select \"No\" if you do not.\r\n\r\n  5. Paint Shop Pro Setup will unpack the necessary files and place them into\r\n     your directory.\r\n\r\n  6. Paint Shop Pro Setup will notify you when the installation is completed.\r\n\r\nPaint Shop Pro is installed and ready to use.  Double click the pointer on\r\nthe Paint Shop Pro icon and try it out!\r\n                                    3\r\n\f\r\n\r\n                             The User's Manual\r\n\r\nIn order to keep the size of the Shareware version of Paint Shop Pro\r\nreasonable no user's manual is provided.
