11 Nov 1991\r\n===========================\r\n\r\n\r\nWindows enhanced mode system configuration\r\n------------------------------------------\r\n\r\nIf you are running Windows in 386 enhanced mode (this is recommended\r\nfor Image-In), you should read the section in the Microsoft Windows\r\nUser's manual about setting a permanent swap file. It is very\r\nimportant to create a permanent swap file of at least 4Mb especially if\r\nyou have 4Mb or less memory in your machine.\r\n\r\n\r\nScanner supported\r\n-----------------\r\n\r\nThis version supports the following scanners:\r\n\r\n- ALPS 300\r\n- AVR 1000 and 3000\r\n- Canon IX-12, IX-12F and IX-30F\r\n- Canon ION PC kit.\r\n- Datacopy 730GS\r\n- Epson GT-4000, GT-6000 (marketed in the US as ES-300C)\r\n- Hewlett-Packard Scanjet, Scanjet+ and Scanjet IIC.\r\n- Microtek (all current models)\r\n- Ricoh RS-3xx with ISI-8 or MSI-8 interface\r\n- Ricoh RS-632 with ISI-8, MSI-8 or SCSI interface\r\n- Ricoh FS1 (SCSI).\r\n- Sharp JX-300 and JX-320\r\n- UMAX (all current models)\r\n\r\n Before using Image-In with ALPS, AVR, Canon, HP, Sharp and\r\n UMAX scanners, you must install the scanner driver provided with the\r\n scanner. Follow the installation instructions in the scanner\r\n documentation.\r\n\r\nDMA problems and certain scanners\r\n---------------------------------\r\n\r\nCertain scanners make use of the DMA, and problems may arise when\r\nthese scanners try to transfer big memory blocks to these areas.\r\nIf you get a Windows error message relating to the DMA buffer the\r\nfollowing line should be added in the SYSTEM.INI file in the Windows\r\nsub-directory under the [386enh] section: \r\n\r\nDMAbuffersize=64\r\n\r\n\r\nCompatibility problems between Image-In and some VGA cards\r\n----------------------------------------------------------\r\n\r\nIf you are using a 16-color VGA configuration or another\r\n16-color display adapter that includes VGA emulation, Image-In\r\nwill try to control the VGA hardware palette directly, so as to \r\ndisplay gray-scale images in true gray scale mode. On certain \r\nsystems you may get an altered screen display. To resolve this \r\nproblem, the first step is to uncheck \"Use VGA palette\" in the \r\nview display dialog box. If you still have problems, add the line \r\n\r\n vga=0\r\n\r\nin the [display] section of the IMAGEIN.INI file.\r\n\r\n\r\nImage-In temporary files\r\n------------------------\r\n\r\nImage-In creates a temporary file when there is not enough memory\r\nto keep an image completely in memory. This file is created in the\r\nsame drive/directory as the other Windows temporary files. If there\r\nis not enough disk space for the temporary file, you can select \r\nanother drive by setting the TEMP environment variable. To do this,\r\nput a line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file as follows:\r\n\r\n SET TEMP=:\\pathname\r\n\r\n\r\nUsing Adaptec SCSI drivers and Image-In\r\n---------------------------------------\r\n\r\nCurrently, the following scanners use the adaptec SCSI driver:\r\n\r\nRicoh RS632\r\nRicoh FS1\r\n\r\nThe adaptec SCSI driver given with Image-In uses the following Adaptec\r\nASPI DOS driver:\r\n\t\r\n - ASPI4DOS.sys for 154x and 164x board,\r\n\r\n - ASPI2DOS.sys for 152x boards.\r\n\r\nIf you do not have this driver, contact your adaptec distributor to get one.\r\n\r\nThis device driver must be installed BEFORE the ASPISCSI.SYS (which is provided\r\non your Image-In disk) in your CONFIG.SYS file.\r\n\r\nFor example the following lines must be found (in this order) in your CONFIG.SYS\r\nfile:\r\n\r\ndevice = [path]\\aspi4dos.sys\r\ndevice = [imagein3 path]\\aspiscsi.sys\r\n\r\nNOTE: If you have selected a SCSI scanner (and choosen the adaptec SCSI adapter), the\r\n ASPISCSI.SYS will be automatically added to your CONFIG.SYS file." }
