For more information about WINTAB, see Appendix B in \"Introducing\r\nMicroStation.\"\r\n\r\nWhen switching between DOS and Windows Connection, you may have to reset your\r\ndigitizing partition and setup. This is because MicroStation's DOS digitizer\r\ndriver and WINTAB report different resolutions for the same tablet. Since the\r\ndigitizer partition and digitizer setup depend on the values returned by the\r\ntablet software, the values saved when in DOS are not correct for WINTAB and\r\nvice-versa.\r\n------------------------------------------------\r\nEnd of Digitizing Tablets and Windows Connection\r\n------------------------------------------------\r\n\r\n--------\r\nPlotting\r\n--------\r\nThe MicroStation Plotting Environment (mplot.ma) is no longer delivered with\r\nMicroStation. It is included on the Intergraph MicroStation Utilities disk.\r\n\r\n\"plotfile.exe\" has been replaced with \"plotutil.exe\" and \"plotfile.bat.\"\r\n\"plotfile.bat\" sets the plotting environment variables and then runs\r\n\"plotutil.exe.\" For more information about these files, see Chapter 5 in\r\n\"Introducing MicroStation.\"\r\n\r\nThe default communication parameters can be changed by adding or altering the\r\nCOMMUNICATION line(s) in the plotter configuration file.\r\n\r\nWhen plotting to a color PostScript device, if color 0 in the attached color\r\ntable is white (red=255, green=255, blue=255), then the output is plotted as\r\nblack. If a white color is needed, use a color other than 0 and change that\r\ncolor in the color table to white. For more information about color tables, see\r\nChapter 15 of the User's Guide.\r\n\r\nColor plotting of raster elements of type 87/88 is supported in the HP-GL/2\r\nprotocol only. The raster data will always be plotted before the vector data.\r\n\r\nWhen you plot a file that has multiple IRAS raster layers loaded, the images\r\nwill all be plotted in the same color even though the images are displayed in\r\ndifferent colors. The color that the images are plotted can be determined by\r\nthe value of the PEN= option in the BORDER configuration file record. For\r\nexample, to plot the images with pen 3 change the border command to following:\r\nBORDER/PEN=3/filename.\r\n\r\nThe num_pen record in the \"cal960.plt\" file should be set to 2 when using a\r\nCalComp 960 plotter and to 4 when using a CalComp 965 plotter.\r\n\r\nThe file \"sizes.dat\" located in the plotcfg directory contains examples of the\r\nmaximum plotting area of certain HP plotters. Values are given for normal and\r\nexpand mode.\r\n---------------\r\nEnd of Plotting\r\n---------------\r\n\r\n-----------\r\nMulti-lines\r\n-----------\r\nIn MicroStation Version 5, the manner in which multi-line styles are defined,\r\nsaved, retrieved, and used has changed, along with the user interface (dialog\r\nboxes, menus, and so on). Users familiar with multi-lines in previous versions\r\nwill notice that the STYLE MDL application is no longer delivered. Defining\r\nand editing multi-line styles is still accomplished through the Multi-lines\r\nsettings box, opened from the Element menu. However, all multi-line style\r\nsaving and retrieving is accomplished through the Settings Groups dialog boxes\r\n(Settings menu/Groups).\r\n\r\nTo use a multi-line style library created in MicroStation Version 4 with\r\nMicroStation Version 5, you must first import it into a Settings file. The\r\nmulti-line styles delivered with Version 4 in the library \"ustation.sty\" can be\r\nfound in the delivered \"styles.stg\" settings file. For more information about\r\nSettings Groups and multi-lines, see Chapters 3 and 15 in the User's Guide.\r\n------------------\r\nEnd of Multi-lines\r\n------------------\r\n\r\n-----\r\nFonts\r\n-----\r\nThe format of the file MicroStation uses for font information has been changed;\r\nit is now a MicroStation resource file. The old and new font files are not\r\ninterchangeable. If you have a Version 4 font library that you have customized,\r\nyou should back it up before loading MicroStation Version 5. It is recommended\r\nthat you add the extension \".flb\" to all older font libraries.\r\n\r\nWhen creating a new font resource file, the Font Installer dialog box\r\nautomatically adds the extension \".rsc\" to the filename.\r\n\r\nIf you added fonts to a Version 4 font library, you will need to add those\r\nfonts to the new font resource file to be used with Version 5. The Font\r\nInstaller dialog box lets you import .cel, PostScript, TrueType, .shx, and\r\nVersion 4 fontlib files. For more information, see \"Font Libraries\" in Chapter\r\n15 of the User's Guide.\r\n\r\nThe first font copied into a new font resource file becomes the default font\r\n(equivalent to the old style fastfont).\r\n\r\nThe default Version 5 font resource file is located in the \"wsmod\\default\\symb\"\r\ndirectory and is named \"font.rsc\". It contains the same fonts as the \"fontlib\"\r\nfont library from MicroStation Version 4 as well as three IGES fonts (fonts 15,\r\n16 and 17). The \"flib\" utility has been replaced with the Font Installer dialog\r\nbox (User menu/Utilities > Install Fonts ...).\r\n\r\nVersion 5 uses the configuration variable MS_SYMBRSRC for the search path for\r\nsymbology resource files, including font resource files.\r\n\r\nVersion 5 allows fonts from more than one resource file to be used during a\r\ndesign session. This is accomplished by using wildcards or by assigning\r\nmultiple font resource files to the MS_SYMBRSRC configuration variable. If two\r\nfont resource files contain the same font number, then the last font read will\r\noverride any other.\r\n\r\nIn Version 4, if a text string contained a character that was not available in\r\nthe font, MicroStation displayed an asterisk (star). If the font did not\r\ncontain an asterisk character (oct052/dec42), MicroStation would not display a\r\ncharacter. Version 5 displays a question mark in a diamond if a character is\r\nnot available.\r\n\r\nCurrently the \"Remove\" function is not implemented. You can only change a font\r\nnumber at this time; the font description and name are automatically set for\r\nyou. Future versions of the Font Installer supporting these features will be\r\nposted to MicroStation information forums, including Intergraph's bulletin\r\nboard (InterBoard), Compuserve, etc.\r\n\r\nIt is recommended that 16 MB of memory be available on a PC used to install\r\nfonts.\r\n------------\r\nEnd of Fonts\r\n------------\r\n\r\n--------\r\nDatabase\r\n--------\r\nIndex files on mslink must be created for each table that will be linked to\r\ngraphics and inserted into the data dictionary for the Xbase server. See\r\nChapter 4 of the Database Guide.\r\n\r\nTo create the RIS database example for the lesson:\r\n 1. Create a schema named \"gis\" in your database. If you are using\r\n Informix, you must create a database.\r\n 2. Change directory to the ustation\\database\\ris\\examples\\gis directory\r\n 3. Execute the rislod program delivered in the \\ris\\risutl\\bin\r\n directory. Accept the default values for each prompt except\r\n \"Main file for loading [ris.dmp]:\". You will need to key in\r\n \"gis.dmp\".\r\n\r\nMicroStation Version 5 supports Oracle forms 3.0 only.\r\n---------------\r\nEnd of Database\r\n---------------\r\n\r\n-----\r\nCells\r\n-----\r\nPrior to MicroStation Version 5, a maximum of 1,000 cells could be listed in\r\nthe Cell Library settings box. This limitation has been removed. However, the\r\n256 block limitation on the size of cells remains.\r\n\r\nAs always, point cells are placed using the current active symbology including\r\nthe use of custom line styles. Exceptions to this are point cells that contain\r\ncone (type 23) elements. If the Active Line Style is set to a custom line\r\nstyle, such cells will be placed using the standard solid line style (zero).\r\n\r\nAs in previous versions, using empty text nodes or empty enter-data-fields\r\nwithin shared cells is not supported.\r\n------------\r\nEnd of Cells\r\n------------\r\n\r\n---\r\nEDG\r\n---\r\nThis release includes a new version of EDG. See the topic entitled\r\n\"release-notes -> differences\" in the on-line EDG help file for detailed\r\ninformation if you are a user of previous versions of EDG.\r\n\r\nSome commands may not work the same as they did in previous releases or may not\r\nyet be implemented. See the section entitled \"release-notes -> feature-lists\"\r\nof the on-line EDG help file for a list of all of the commands and their\r\nstatus. The on-line help feature has a detailed explanation of the differences\r\nas well as the new features that are incorporated into this version of EDG.\r\n\r\nIt is best to run EDG from a local hard drive. If it is run from a drive\r\naccessed across a Novell network, EDG tries to write to the root directory\r\n(unless the DOSX variable points to a swap directory the user has write access\r\nto) and gives the error \"Cannot access file.\" EDG works fine on other network\r\ndrives using the TCPIP protocol.\r\n\r\nThe verification procedure EDG is now much simpler than in older versions. In\r\nolder versions, SET VERIFY was used to enable element verification mode. As\r\nthe user moved through the file the elements were verified. The SET VERIFY\r\ncommand now simply specifies operating parameters for the new VERIFY command.\r\nRefer to the EDG on-line help file for greater detail.\r\n\r\nTo check a file's integrity, simply enter \"verify whole\" or \"vw\" at the EdG>\r\nprompt. EDG will verify each element in the file and stop on the first error\r\nencountered. The default sensitivity of the VERIFY command is set to suppress\r\nerrors that are not severe. In order to continue the verification process from\r\nthe current position, enter \"verify after\" or \"va\". The VERIFY WHOLE command\r\nalways begins verification from the top of the file.\r\n\r\nFor a complete list of new features, and detailed information regarding these\r\ncommands and parameters see the EDG on-line help file or refer to Chapter 5 of\r\nthe Development and Support Guide.\r\n----------\r\nEnd of EDG\r\n----------\r\n\r\n---------\r\nUtilities\r\n---------\r\nThe following utilities are no longer delivered on the MicroStation\r\ninstallation disks. They are now on the Intergraph MicroStation Utilities CD.\r\n\r\nName Description\r\n\r\nacct.ma records the amount of time spent in each design file.\r\nacctr.ma creates reports with totals/subtotals from acct.ma data.\r\nbaseline.ma clears NEW and MODIFIED bits in all displayable elements.\r\nbulktext.ma creates text from a design file or design file from text.\r\ncelst.ma lists cells in a design file or cell library.\r\ncvt.exe displays input data in different formats (decimal, hex, etc.)\r\ndeldup.exe deletes duplicate elements in design files.\r\nfixrange.ma recalculates the ranges of design file elements.\r\nisit.ma used by user commands to determine whether a file exists.\r\nleveluse.ma shows the design file levels that contain displayable elements.\r\nmplot.ma used to plot multiple (existing) plotfiles.\r\nmscomp.ma compress multiple design files 'offline'.\r\noffpat.ma pattern shapes \"off-line\" in multiple design files.\r\noverview.ma shows location of one view within another (like IGDS).\r\nrcl.ma replace existing cells in a design file with new cells.\r\nreadasc.ma read ASCII files from a user command.\r\nrenum.ma renumber the graphic group and/or text node numbers.\r\nrfmod.ma modify reference file attachment information.\r\nscltxt.ma modify text within a design file.\r\nxqt.ma used by user commands to execute a system command.\r\n----------------\r\nEnd of Utilities\r\n----------------\r\n\r\n-------------\r\nCompatibility\r\n-------------\r\nProtected mode MicroCSL, External programs, and Dynamic Link Modules\r\nfor Version 5.\r\nRequirements.\r\n Compilers:\r\n MetaWare HIGHC Versions 3.10, and 3.11\r\n Lahey FORTRAN 77 Version 5.10\r\n Linkers:\r\n Phar Lap 386|DOS Extender Versions 4.x, and 5.x\r\n\r\nThe default tutorial set is no longer delivered; tutorials are still supported.\r\n\r\nAssociative patterns created in Version 5 cannot be displayed in Version 4.\r\n--------------------\r\nEnd of Compatibility\r\n--------------------\r\n\r\n--------------------\r\nMicroStation Manager\r\n--------------------\r\nMicroStation Manager has been updated for Version 5 and is now integrated into\r\nMicroStation. This means that the MS_INITAPPS configuration variable does not\r\nhave to be set and that \"mm.ma\" is no longer delivered. For more information\r\nabout MicroStation Manager, see Chapter 1 of the User's Guide.\r\n\r\nWith MicroStation Version 5, \"RMAKER\" (a text-file-based resource utility) is\r\nobsolete. Also, since MicroStation Manager is integrated into MicroStation, the\r\nsource code is unavailable. However, developers can still write a MS_INITAPPS\r\nMDL application to replace MicroStation Manager. Also, users can customize\r\nMicroStation Manager with the Modify User Interface dialog box, which replaces\r\nthe Nexus configurability tools. See the User's Guide, Chapter 16.\r\n---------------------------\r\nEnd of MicroStation Manager\r\n---------------------------\r\n\r\n-------------------\r\nGeneral Information\r\n-------------------\r\nThe following video modes do not support backing store: EGA, DGIS, TIGA 1.1,\r\nTIGA 2.0 (Version 4.0), the Windows Connection Driver, and any driver written\r\nspecifically for MicroStation prior to Version 5.\r\n\r\nIntroducing \"InterBoard\"\r\n\r\nThe Intergraph Customer Support Bulletin Board Service (InterBoard) is an\r\nelectronic forum that allows Intergraph customers to exchange messages and\r\nfiles with Intergraph's technical and marketing staff and with other Intergraph\r\ncustomers. InterBoard is structured to allow customers to give suggestions,\r\nmake inquiries, and exchange other support-related information. Within each\r\nproduct area, InterBoard provides information and forums for discussion about\r\nvarious topics, including:\r\n\r\n* Technical notes, release notes, and general product information\r\n* Documentation and training information\r\n* Sample data, programs, and configurations\r\n\r\nCalling InterBoard\r\n\r\nThe InterBoard telephone number is (205) 730-8786. It is available 24 hours\r\na day, seven days a week, and it can accommodate many callers\r\nsimultaneously. To connect to InterBoard, follow these steps:\r\n\r\n1. Set your communications for eight (8) data bits, no parity, one (1)\r\n stop bit, and any baud rate up to 14,400.\r\n\r\n2. Dial the InterBoard number: (205) 730-8786.\r\n\r\n3. Once connected, respond to the login request with your user ID.\r\n If you have not connected before, respond with \"NEW\", and InterBoard\r\n will lead you through the process of creating a user ID.\r\n\r\nIf you have trouble connecting to or using InterBoard, call the InterBoard\r\nsystem operator, at (205) 730-1413.\r\n\r\nUsing InterBoard\r\n\r\nFrom the moment you call, InterBoard leads you through all procedures with\r\nmenus and on-line help. If you are new to computer bulletin boards, rest\r\nassured that the software gives you clear choices and plenty of help at every\r\nstep. A text file that explains the InterBoard commands and organization is\r\noffered to you for downloading when you first call. If you have used Compuserve\r\nor hobbyist bulletin boards, you will feel comfortable right away.\r\n\r\nIf you have used the MicroStation Information Center (MIC), you will notice\r\nthat this system is the same except it has been expanded to form the Intergraph\r\nCustomer Support BBS (InterBoard). As a result, a number of changes have taken\r\nplace. Here is a summary of some of the enhancements:\r\n\r\n New features\r\n* Expanded message forums and file libraries for Intergraph applications\r\n* Full-screen editor\r\n* Support for V.32bis modems with transmission rates up to 14,400 bps\r\n* Restructured menus\r\n* Added voice support for connection problems\r\n\r\n\r\nThe MicroStation Product Forum on Compuserve\r\n\r\nBentley Systems maintains the MicroStation Product Forum on Compuserve for\r\nMicroStation users. The forum gives users who subscribe to Compuserve the\r\nability to converse with other MicroStation users, receive MicroStation related\r\ninformation including marketing and technical information. It also provides\r\naccess to a number of libraries containing hardware drivers, useful utilities,\r\nand programming examples. To access the forum, just type GO MSTATION at any \"!\"\r\nprompt.\r\n\r\nFor a list of know software anomalies, reference the certnote.txt found\r\nin the docs directory.\r\n\r\n--------------------------\r\nEnd of General Information\r\n--------------------------\r\n\r\n------------\r\nNew Features\r\n------------\r\nRefer to the MicroStation documentation and on-line help. New features are\r\nsummarized in Chapter 1 of \"Introducing MicroStation:\" \"The Newest\r\nMicroStation.\"\r\n-------------------\r\nEnd of New Features\r\n-------------------"
