1992.\r\n===========================================================================\r\n\r\nNOTE TO MICROSOFT WINDOWS 3.0 USERS\r\n===================================\r\n\r\nIf you are using Microsoft Windows in real mode, some unexpected results \r\nmay occur while running CDAUDIO and/or the Install program. This could be \r\ncaused by insufficient memory available to handle the program's demands.\r\nUsing standard or enhanced mode is recommended.\r\n\r\nIf you run into problems during the Install, try copying the files called \r\nCDINST.* from the INSTINFO sub-directory on the floppy to your hard disk, \r\nand then running CDINST from your hard disk instead of typing A:INSTALL.\r\n\r\n\r\nIF YOU ARE USING MSCDEX and WINDOWS 3.0\r\n=======================================\r\n\r\nAs recommended in your Windows 3.0 README.TXT file, because you will be \r\nusing MSCDEX, include the following entry in the [386Enh] section of \r\nyour SYSTEM.INI file:\r\n\r\n device=LANMAN10.386\r\n\r\nYou must activate the drive by sending it a command before you start \r\nWindows. For example, type the following at the DOS prompt and then start \r\nWindows:\r\n\r\n dir x:\r\n\r\n where x is the drive letter for the CD ROM drive.\r\n\r\nBefore you do this you must get the LANMAN10.386 file off the Windows \r\ndiskettes. You need to find the LANMAN10.386 file and a program called \r\nEXPAND.EXE (On the Ver. 3.0 5 1/4\" release disks of Windows these programs \r\nare found on Disk 4 and Disk 2 respectively). You should copy the program \r\nEXPAND.EXE into your Windows directory. You should then use EXPAND.EXE to \r\nexpand the LANMAN10.386 to your Windows directory, using a syntax similar \r\nto the following:\r\n \r\n EXPAND A:LANMAN10.386 C:\\WINDOWS\r\n\r\nwhere A: is the floppy drive that contains the Windows diskette with \r\nLANMAN10.386 on it and C:\\WINDOWS is the drive and directory where Windows\r\nis stored.\r\n\r\n\r\nIF YOU ARE USING MSCDEX and WINDOWS 3.1\r\n=======================================\r\n\r\nIf you are using a CD-ROM drive with Windows 3.1, you should use version \r\n2.21 of Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) with all \r\nconfigurations of CD-ROM drives. If you use version 2.20 or later, you \r\nmust also remove the following setting from the [386Enh] section of the \r\nSYSTEM.INI file:\r\n\r\n device=LANMAN10.386\r\n\r\nThis setting can cause some CD-ROM drives to timeout and fail with \r\nversions later than 2.20 of MSDCEX. However, if you must use a version \r\nearlier than 2.20 of MSCDEX, the above setting is required in the \r\n[386Enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI file.\r\n\r\n\r\nWINDOWS TAPE BACKUP SOFTWARE (WTBACKUP)\r\n=======================================\r\n\r\nIf you are using the Windows Tape Backup (WTBACKUP) software. ASPILS_D.SYS \r\nmust be install in your config.sys. The install for the 'DOS Applications'\r\nwill automatically install it. If you only want to run the Windows Tape\r\nBackup software, then you must copy ASPILS_D.SYS file from the 'DOS \r\nApplications' disk to your hard drive and add the following line in your\r\nconfig.sys:\r\n\r\n DEVICE=c:[path]\\ASPILS_D.SYS\r\n\r\nFor ASPILS_D.SYS to take effect, you must re-boot your PC.\r\n\r\nCOMMON PROBLEMS WITH WTBACKUP V1.01\r\n===================================\r\n\r\n1. One common problem will be moving WTBACKUP files to another directory\r\n after installation. There is an entry [CorelSCSI] in WIN.INI pointing\r\n to CorelSCSI directory. WTBACKUP.EXE and WTBACKUP.INI should always be\r\n placed in this directory.\r\n\r\n2. ASPIDLL.DLL and MEMMAN.DLL are required. They should be placed in the\r\n same directory (preferred) as WTBACKUP. They may be moved to another\r\n directory as long as they are accessible (WINDOWS or PATH directory).\r\n\r\n3. You must have ASPI manager installed (such as ASPILS_D or ASPI?DOS).\r\n You must have the tape drive powered and ready BEFORE running WTBACKUP\r\n or CTBACKUP.\r\n Why? ASPI manager creates a snap-shot of SCSI ID map on the first access\r\n and saves it. All response to subsequent calls to GET_DEVICE_TYPE will\r\n be based on the initial ID map, therefore, if you did not have the drive\r\n turned on or change SCSI ID after the scan ASPI manager will not know\r\n about it. BUT, if you are using ASPILS_D.SYS, WTBACKUP will clear the\r\n cached data each time it is executed so the program will always see the\r\n current configuration.\r\n\r\n4. EMMExclude switch in [386Enh] is a MUST. Windows will may trample over\r\n the LS-2000 card memory address, if Windows is not told about it.\r\n Add the following line to youe system.ini if:\r\n\r\n the LS-2000 is at D800 use: EMMEXCLUDE=D800-DBFF \r\n the LS-2000 is at C800 use: EMMEXCLUDE=C800-CBFF \r\n the LS-2000 is at E000 use: EMMEXCLUDE=E000-E3FF \r\n the LS-2000 is at D000 use: EMMEXCLUDE=D000-D3FF \r\n the LS-2000 is at DC00 use: EMMEXCLUDE=DC00-DFFF \r\n the LS-2000 is at CC00 use: EMMEXCLUDE=CC00-CFFF \r\n the LS-2000 is at E400 use: EMMEXCLUDE=E400-E7FF \r\n the LS-2000 is at D400 use: EMMEXCLUDE=D400-D7FF \r\n\r\n Note: the LS-2000 default memory address is D800\r\n\r\n5. CHKDSK (or similar utility) should be run before attempting backup to\r\n make sure your FAT is not corrupt.\r\n\r\n6. Each tape operation may seem to freeze Windows momentarily (a lot longer\r\n for a Rewind). It is because ASPI manager is BLOCKING. There is no way\r\n to avoid this problem. All applications (including\r\n WTBACKUP) will not respond until tape operation is finished. Please\r\n be patient...\r\n\r\n7. You must understand that a tape drive is a sequential device. If you\r\n are trying to do a select restore, you may have to wait for a long time\r\n while tape is seeking to the location. Time for a coffee.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t \r\nUNDOCUMENTED FEATURES WITH WTBACKUP\r\n===================================\r\n\r\n1. On the initial screen, return & cursor keys won't work. Instead, you can\r\n use Alt-B, Alt-V, Alt-R, Alt-E for Backup, Verify, Restore & Exit.\r\n Next version should have a proper welcome screen (may be with animating\r\n tape drive).\r\n\r\n2. If you have multiple tape drives, you must first select an \"Active Tape\"\r\n from Tape->Device menu. Usually, a tape name in main window shows the\r\n SCSI inquiry data, you may go into Tape->Device->Setup to assign your\r\n own.\r\n\r\n3. GO button maybe selected before selecting SaveSet or DriveList. WTBACKUP\r\n will prompt for more info it needs to do the job, but you will not get a\r\n chance to change other options.\r\n\r\n4. In backup mode, when the SaveSet List is displayed, it is not meant for\r\n you to select an existing SaveSet. It is just for a show.\r\n\r\n5. There are two options in WTBACKUP.INI you may add/change:\r\n\r\n - CATALOG = points to directory where CATALOG/VOLUME\r\n files stored defaults to the same directory as WTBACKUP.EXE useful\r\n if you want to share the files with CTBACKUP\r\n\r\n - FONT = you can TRY to change the default text font\r\n it is up to Windows' strange font matching algorithm whether it\r\n will be used or not (may come up with a compromise)\r\n e.g. FONT = HELV 13\r\n\r\nKNOWN PROBLEMS \r\n==============\r\nReadme.bug is a list of the known problems with the CorelSCSI Windows \r\nutilities.\r\n \r\n\r\nQUESTIONS\r\n=========\r\n\r\nIf you have any suggestions, or questions regarding this product that your\r\ndistributer cannot answer, you can contact: \t\t\r\n\r\nCorelSCSI!
