  The processor has an external data bus that connects it with main memory,external cache,and control circuits.This pathway,which is also called the local bus,can have the same data width and operate at the external speed of the processor. A 486 processor,for expample,has a 32 bit local bus that operates at speeds up to 50 MHz when accessing memory. Pentium processors have a 64 bit bus that operates at 50 or 60 MHz(depending on the processor used) when accessing memory.
  处理器有一个将它与主存储器、外部高速缓存和控制电路相连的外部数据总线。这条通道,又称为局部总线,可以拥有与处理器相同的数据宽度,并以处理器外部速度工作。例如,486处理器拥有32位局部总线,当存取内存时工作速度高达50MHz。奔腾处理器拥有64位总线,当存取内存时工作速度为50或60MHz(根据所用的处理器而定)。
  Another computer bus,called the I/O bus or expansion bus,carries data and instructions between the processor bus and the computer per ipherals. The width of the I/O bus is 16bits or 32 bits,depending on the type of I/O bus being used.With advanced bus techno logies,the speed of the I/O bus might approach that of the processor bus. With standard bus technology,however,the speed of the I/O bus is much slower than that of the processor bus.
  另一个计算机总线,称为I/O总线或扩展总线,在处理器总线和计算机外设之间传送数据和指令。根据所用的I/O总线的类型,I/O总线的宽度为16位或32位。基于先进的总线技术,I/O总线的速度可以接近处理器总线的速度。然而,基于普通的总线技术,I/O总线的速度比处理器总线的速度低得多。
